Good JOB NCAA! They are Actually doing something about a very big mistake instead of sweeping it under the rug. 8-5 is hugely different than 9-4 in the 5th, and the cyclones deserve a chance to show that it is.

This seems really unnecessary to me. It makes Christy seem like a whiny b*tch, which is fine for volleytalkers, but not for a head coach of a major D-1 program. Really? You couldnt have gone with "poor sport", "baby"........ Of course he couldn't. He's ay. Just like elevation can't help but post the crap he's posting.

It's hard to wrap my head around the idea that a head coach could be in a game 5, KNOW a misinterpreted rule that cost your team a point occurred, and you wouldnt file a protest. Maybe if it was 13-3 I wouldnt, but..........

This seems really unnecessary to me. It makes Christy seem like a whiny b*tch, which is fine for volleytalkers, but not for a head coach of a major D-1 program. Seems like a criminal getting off on a technicality. Legal? I guess. Right? No, especially because it's not being replayed at Tech. Really feels like Miss New AVCA President did a great job greasing the wheels to give her team the best odds to get this 'win'. I can just hear her and the Big 12 talking the Tech coach into the replay at ISU as 'you know, it's best for the conference if we get another team seeded, so let's just go along with this plan'. If it was that important to her to win with integrity, at least pony up the money and effort to replay it on the original court, not on your home court now. Even without fans in attendance, it's definitely not the home court Tech originally won on. The whole thing stinks IMO. I'm pulling for Tech to beat 'em again at noon. Hope they're feeling really ticked off.... I see nothing wrong with playing the rest of the match at ISU. It would have been rather expensive to continue the match at TT for a dozen points considering the distance between the schools. As a comparison - this year in Major League Baseball, the Royals and Indians had a suspended game played in Kansas City that was in the 10th inning. There were no future dates on the schedule where the Indians were in Kansas City (this was late in the season). The solution was to resume the game in Cleveland before a regularly scheduled game. This game could have been crucial for making the playoffs, yet MLB chose to switch sites for the conclusion. MLB has way more financial means than Women's VB...
I also don't think the Big 12 or Iowa State pressured the NCAA to replay this game. As someone who has a rooting interest in Kansas Volleyball - replaying this game and ISU having a chance of replacing a loss with a win does Kansas no favors. Like anyone else that has an interest in another team that is on the border of a seed - they don't like this, but it still is the right thing (assuming the protest was valid).

Why would the ref(s) be reprimanded for a scorekeeper error? How was this correctable? It's not like they could go to video or something. Is that a point anyhow? Wouldn't it just be denied and a yellow issued? Thanks for the info. I wish there were more. Who wants to email Coach Johnson and ask?

How many replayed (or not replayed but no contest) matches have there been at the BCS-conference level this season? In the past 5?
Is this bad call really that unique?

It's not really a "call." I guess the better question is how often are rules misapplied? I have no idea.

And if it was a scorer error, there are ways to rectify it without having to penalize based on the error.

I don't fault Johnson at all. Some may see the challenge as petty but as a head coach, you do what you need to do to support your players. Good for her for challenging the error.

That's what I'm asking -- how would you be able to rectify it if the scorekeeper wrote down the wrong sub? There's no backup.
