Just what they need. Depth at OH -- even if the depth comes elsewhere (i.e., if she ends up starting).

There is a lot of discussion on the Wisconsin 2015 thread over possible spring and fall '15 lineups, so I thought I would post my own (Minnesota) guesses here.
S: Either Handley or Swenson. I have a little hunch that although this coaching staff obviously likes Schau, they may begin to use her more as a DS. Nice server, good hands, nice defense. Who knows, though. Handley has come on strong late this past season, IMO. It will be interesting to see how Swenson adjusts to the college game. I cannot wait to see her play here in April. So glad she came aboard early.
L: Very likely to be Rosado. She has been great as a freshman and is a strong candidate for "Most Improved" over the '14 season. I have great faith in her as a player now, something I did not have back in September.
DS: I feel it's quite possible that we could see a lot of Goehner again at DS. It all depends on how our incoming transfer(s) at OH turn out, I suppose. There is also a possibility that we could see some Rasmussen, Schau, and even Wilhite at DS depending on how starting lineups go.
OH: Almost certainly Santana. Not sure about the second. Could be a number of players. As for who I'd like to see, I'm not quite sure. We badly need someone who can terminate and be explosive, even. Some strides were made in that direction this last season but we have a ways to go.
MB: It should be interesting to see where newcomer Morgan fits in. Lohman, along with both Tapps seemed to have a good handle on this position in general, so it will be hard for a newcomer to break in unless she is outstanding - which, I understand, she is quite talented. I definitely expect to see Paige here for a good chunk of the season, maybe with her and Hannah doing some alternating at RS?
RS: So many good options. One will eventually have to rise above the rest. We have Beal, Wilhite, both Tapps, and possibly Taylor Morgan. I'd love to see our right-side attack on really take off again like it did in 2012-13. Hopefully the setting will be there.

Also, VERY excited to see what Toni Alugbue can add to the team (see 2015 D1 transfers). Hope she can get back to her post-ACL injury form and light up our stat sheets.

I'd be surprised if both Schau and Handley remain with the team. My guess is that one of them transfers.

I still think SSS is a lock for setter and that when people say a new setter isn't going to be able to make that much difference when she still has, essentially, the same hitters as this year's setters, they are forgetting that SSS is an attacking setter, the first the Gophers will have had since the Carico year.

I Handley is not going to transfer. She knew this whole time that Sam was coming in. She's fine with assuming a backup setter, occasional blocking sub role. I'd actually be surprised if Schau didn't transfer though. My starting lineup projection. OH1- Daly Santana OH2- Toni Abuglue MB1- Paige Tapp MB2- Molly Lohman Setter- Sam Swenson RS- Hannah Tapp Libero- Rosado or Goehner (could see both as liberos like this fall) DS- Rosado or Goehner

i loved watching goehner play in hs, how do you guys feel she did this year? any chance she'll get a shot at OH? I think she did really well. Looking at the stats for her, her hitting percentage is so-so, as is the total number of kills. We have to remember that she was really only used as an OH for complete matches near the very end of the season. She put up very good numbers then and is a generally aggressive and smart hitter. It is quite clear, through, that she is on a very different "height plane" than a lot of the hitters and blockers she is going up against. Her blocking is quite good for a smaller player, as her leaping ability is outstanding, but she has to work that much harder at it. She is very, very strong in the backrow, particularly for serve receive, one of our best. Overall I would give her a slight edge over Wilhite and put her up right behind Santana in terms of overall performance right now.

If you Minny fans think Toni is going to be able to swing in the Big 10 you are crazy! Doesn't elevate like she used to and isn't close the volleyball player for that level of playing. Hugh needs to call up some of his foreign buddies to get the OH you all are wanting.
Also, SSS sets from day 1.

Per the jobs thread, Laura Bush will not be returning next year. Wonder what that does to the team? What applicants are interested? How does it affect recruiting?

I actually said this to her a while back, but I'll repeat it here. We all owe her our thanks for taking on the interim position and keeping the program running while Hugh was with the NT. It was something she didn't have to do. She and her staff brought in some nice players for that interim -- like Palmer, Knudsen and Santana. I know recruiting could not have been easy.
Best of luck to her with her future endeavors.

Also enjoyed other interactions with her. Hopefully she stays involved with the local volleyball community.
