I think Minnesota lost a future elite setter in Sydney Hilley. Her dream was to play for Minnesota, but she did not want to sit out due to SSS being the starting setter. I think I said the same thing last year and people got all pissed off at me. I think Hilley will end up being better. Just my opinion. Both will be great college setters, no doubt.

I would like to see a 5-1 as well. I agree the Schau was a bit streaky. I think this team will finish the season in the top 10. I believe they were starting to put it together at the end of last season, but ran out of time. I think their off season of traveling will prove to be helpful too. I literally am so excited to watch them this season.

I admire Schau's commitment to the team but I'm not convinced "good defender" is accurate. I'd much prefer a 5-1 and, if people earn their way in or out of it, that's great. I guess what I meant by that was relative to our other setters last season. She definitely won't be our next libero. Maybe "good" is not even the best word, but rather scrappy: Pretty low to the ground, balanced, and can dive and move quickly. I think defense is one of the reasons the coaches kept going back to her last season even though Erica set (generally) pretty well. Just my observation, though.

I would love to see SSS develop into the starting setter for this Minnesota team. Schau was good last year, but I thought that she was pretty streaky with her setting placement. Also, isn't this team now like the Northern Lights team that won 17 Open + a couple of Puerto Ricans? I am sure they know each other pretty well and chemistry shouldn't be a problem, right? That is essentially it. Right now the *forecasted* starting lineup is NL + Santana + Rosado. Of course, there are a lot of newcomers who could factor in to the rotation. Depth is a good thing, generally. It should bring a level of competition to the practice court that we did not see a year ago. I just hope our bench players can be good sports and teammates and realize their value to the team in practice while understanding their time to play will come, too. I'm not too worried, though. We have a seriously fun and hilarious group of girls on this team who generally seem very inclusive, kind, and welcoming.

I think this season will demonstrate the degree of Hugh's ideological commitment (for lack of a better phrase) to the 6-2.

Hilley has a lot of potential she is already a great setter at 16. IMO definitely going to have a more promising career than SSS unfortunately. Wisconsin got lucky.

I think this season will demonstrate the degree of Hugh's ideological commitment (for lack of a better phrase) to the 6-2. I really think Hugh's use of the 6-2 and modified 5-1 had more to do with personnel than "ideological commitment"s. I really have no doubt he'll choose a lineup that gives them the best chance of succeeding. What I said before bears repeating, if I may: I hope the lineup chosen is chosen for its strength and not to cover up weaknesses. I hope LOTS of players deserve playing time, rather than lots of players not succeeding.

Another loss? What does that mean? Minnesota's been recruiting pretty damned well. They definitely didn't need another 2017 OH. Or have a scholarship for one.

Mosser to UCLA. Another loss for MN. I swear some of you Minnesota fans are the most overdramatic people on this forum. Hugh is bringing in some monsters in 2016 and 2017.

Has anyone heard any rumblings about the August intrasquad scrimmage? (Date, time, if it's even happening...)
