With the loss last night, it might be time to look ahead to next season. It's been well documented that Pollmiller was the only senior on this year's team. New players coming in for 2015 are: Mikaela Foecke, Kenzie Maloney, Tiani Reeves and Brooke Smith.
Assuming all the current players return in 2015, here's the breakdown by position:
Setter: Hunter, Smith
OH/RS: K. Rolfzen, Fien, A. Rolfzen, Ostrander, Ma. Haggerty, Boender
MB: Hall, Me. Haggerty, Keil, Larson, Foecke, Reeves
L/DS: Wong-Orantes, Albrecht, Ethridge, Townsend, Maloney
I understand some of these players could be slated to move to another position group. Foecke is the prime example, with talk that she may be moved to OH or the RS. If she comes in as advertised, I personally think the area in greatest need of an upgrade next year is MB, so that's why I included her in that part of the list.
Please feel free to post your projected starting lineup ideas for others to review and discuss.

I would like to see Foecke play OH with Kadie. I hope with all the progress they say Reeves is making will surprise us!

Nebraska is the best chance for a Big 10 team to beat Penn State next year.

I would like to see Foecke play OH with Kadie. With Kadie and Fien both returning, I just don't see that as the position with the biggest need of an upgrade next year. I think it's more likely Foecke would play on the RS and put Amber into the mix at OH. I don't believe Reeves has much in the way of high level VB experience at this point. It would surprise me if she doesn't end up redshirting next year.

I think it's more likely Foecke would play on the RS and put Amber into the mix at OH. Cook continually praises Amber's ability to block and get touches when she is blocking on the right side. I don't see her moving from there but I think her offense will greatly improve with the consistent location and tempo that Hunter will provide. If Foecke can transition to the college game quickly, she will probably be one of the starting middles with Hall or Haggerty.

In terms of outside hitters that can play all the way around, who besides Kadie can pass in this mix of hitters? This is my concern amongst this group of players. Can Foecke pass? I'm guessing her ball control skills would be limited if she's been middle blocker so far. The passing problems NU had this year often stemmed from the different back row players that were in and out all season with the exception of Justine and Anika. Having two outside hitters that can pass would certainly give the team more stability in ball control. I just don't see it though with this roster.

I watched her on TV while playing in the championship tournament match in IA class A this year. Foecke played one rotation at OH & 2 rotations at MB. Foecke had 17 digs in the title match. The 17 digs may have been more if the sets were longer. The first set went 25-22. The other two sets were 25-13 & 25-8.

Looking at this roster, how do they only have 12 on scholarship?? Someone's probably transferring?

I know that Annika is a walk on. I think Wong-Orantes and Maloney are the only scholarship passers for the 2015 season.

I believe Ostrander, Albrecht, Smith and Reeves would all be walk-ons. I also recall that one of other players (Townsend?) is on a full-ride academic scholarship. That takes the group of potential scholarship players down to 14, with the remainder of the probable solution coming from the Libero/DS situation mentioned by plm is his post.

I like that the OP kept Foecke in the middle. We just might need her there, even though she might belong on the pins. Hall and Haggerty both had great matches against Washington, but can they be consistently elite? Would also love to see either Keil or Larson break out, even though it wasn't in the cards this year. Is Reeves a potential redshirt? Probably another toss up for the middles.

Wasn't she a prep volleyball in the 60's too.
