They'll be alright. Sounds like they played much better than last week - at least games 2/3. I was impressed with Carter's setting. And Pressey...what can you say? She's the real deal at OH. With her back in the lineup, I think the Bears will do well in league play.

I agree with the commentators. Pressey is AA potential. She will be a force in the future. Cal lost Jerkov but gained her. Carter did a good job, but the passing was a little off. It seems like Cal doesn't like to pass floaters. At some point, Shoji started to yany his jump servers for floaters. BearClause might be able to shed some more light on this.

Ok... I'll give Cal plenty-o-room for complaining about officiating on this match.
Good grief it was ugly. I thought that 80% of the bad calls went against California tonight. The would have been game ending for Cal in the net call was probably legit, but there were quite a few touches, saved balls, etc. that were just wrong calls.... and then there was the lift call, of which I don't think is a call these refs will make.
One play in particular had me laughing hysterically in the stands. Cal was complaining about a lift on UH's side (which was iffy, but coulda been, and after as many botched calls by the ref, I'd contest them all too). Samantha Carter went up and talked to the up-ref. He didn't change his mind, so the next play, she intentionally carried the ball badly on a dump in front of him. Stopped, turned around and waited for the call. He wisely didn't call it, but then Kanoe on the very next play did a setter dump back on Cal, as kind of another statement.
I think that this match would have gone at least 4 had the officials been at least even on their bad calls.
Now I'll stop complaining...
One word: Im-Pressey-V! Dang, I like that little OH! She can seriously climb the ladder and brings a lot of heat and energy to the court. Abernathy, in my opinion, was probably pulled from passing duties a little too early which to me appeared to disrupt her game... granted, it was obvious UH was keying on her. LeFall needs to utilize her high armswing and Carter should set her higher.
I don't understand their "3-middle" offense... Maybe it was just in for a phase, but it was confusing to me. Of course, I kind of stopped paying attention to it early, as well.

Kamana'o and Pressey were players of the game.
Kamana'o has really got this offense going. She distributed the sets really well tonight. Of course the passing was pretty steady tonight also. (Although I've noticed that Hawaii's passing sometimes breaks down in transition, during free balls. Gotta work on that.)
Pressey was incredible. It's all about that small-player-playing-big dynamic that makes her really fun to watch.

What's up w/ Jenna Brown? Is she injured or did she just lose her starting spot?

Don't forget the touch on the block that they didn't call for Susie Boogard at 28-26. I know they were bad calls against Cal but that was mondo important.

How was Ashley Watanabe's passing?
Did Teisa Fotu start?
How long was Cayley in?

How was Ashley Watanabe's passing? Did Teisa Fotu start? How long was Cayley in? Watanabe played well. Fotu started game 1, then subbed out for Hittle when Fotu was to move into the front row. I think there was just one time during the match when Dave subbed Fotu out of the backrow and placed Hittle there. I should add that Fotu had a nice kill from the backrow. Cayley played in one game, and she took Fotu's place in subbing in and out for Hittle.

What's up w/ Jenna Brown? Is she injured or did she just lose her starting spot? Bearclause maybe you could help us out with this question as I am curious to know also. I know that basically all through her career she has had shoulder problems but last I heard from her she said she was getting her pop back. Even though she's athletic, I always thought she was kind of short for a rightside especially in the PAC 10. I figured she would be moved to libero but then came Jillian Davis. Hopefully is she has indeed lost her spot they can still use her passing and defense somewhere.

Well it's weird because Pressey is now in there and she is listed as being shorter than Brown. However, Pressey seems just fine in most departments. Could use more experience as a blocker but she hangs with almost any hitter.

Hopefully is she has indeed lost her spot they can still use her passing and defense somewhere. Well - I recall that after Jenna was signed, I ran into Coach Feller at an NCAA Tournament match. Wisconsin was playing, and he compared her favorably to Wisconsin's opposite, who was also left-handed. She did OK when pressed into being a starting leftside in 2002. I don't believe she's ever played in a Spring tournament. She's always been injured or recovering from surgery during the Spring. I recall she did train on the A2 National team, and she supposedly worked a lot on back-row defense there. I can't tell if she's 100%. Right now Coach Feller is trying various lineups, and it sounds like the three-middle setup seems to be one. I guess Jenna is then the odd man (woman) out. I think she could be really good if healthy. She hits the ball hard and has good hang time. Well it's weird because Pressey is now in there and she is listed as being shorter than Brown. However, Pressey seems just fine in most departments. Could use more experience as a blocker but she hangs with almost any hitter. Pressey is shorter than Brown, although I think Angie may be closer to 5'9". She's got good athletic genes. Her dad was former NBA player Paul Pressey. Her dad claims that Angie gets the hops from her mom, who was also a basketball player at Tulsa.
