wow...congrats to rice. other than that hiccup at LSU they've looked pretty solid. this doesn't bode well for the ACC though--Gtech (4-5 with no good wins) on the slide along with North Carolina (now 5-5, but with a win over LMU) and Maryland (loss to houston and no good wins).
let's hope they (rice) can carry it through against LMU...

If LMU loses to Rice tonight that would be 3 straight losses and a likely drop out of the AVCA top 25 - two of them to unranked teams.
If Rice does end up winning that match, their only loss in the tourney ends up being a close 5 game match to the Gophers.
I wonder if they could end up getting enough votes to hop into the top 25 on Monday?

Rice will need the W against LMU to get the votes. Maybe even crack the top 25 if LMU falls out completely. But there are a few other teams that want in on the top 25 as well. (FAMU, Texas...)
Otherwise, the only other ranked team left on Rice's schedule is Hawaii in WAC play. Beating up on the rest of the WAC won't get them votes. Certainly taking Minnesota to 5 has gotten the attention of Shoji and co. And the rest of the WAC coaches for that matter.

Can Rice be considered the frontrunner for WAC challenger? Their play in the pre-season has been probably the most impressive of all the WAC teams except Hawaii in my opinion thus far.

Any thoughts on Rice's improvement this year? I know they changed coaches...
