I publicly stated he wouldn't win it, because Sheffield didn't win it last year despite the obstacles he overcame. Clearly, I was dead wrong.

I'm no coach (but I did drive past a Holiday Inn Express in October) but if I was Olmstead, or any other coach receiving this award, I sure wouldn't want this to be announced on Thursday afternoon just hours before my team takes the court to play a semi-final match.

Interesting choice I am not sure what makes the coach of the year. Is it how well your team plays in the regular season combined with tournament performance? Olmstead has largely performed to expectation BYU was a pre-season top 8 team who made the Final Four. Not so much of a stretch they had a good regular season but certainly not an amazing one losses to CSU and Washington, also San Diego and their other loss currently escapes me. He had returning All Americans and first teamer in Hamson and then also Gray.
Olmstead seems like a great guy. I like him and his staff currently knows a thing or two about blocking as those girls get good touches on everything. Congratulations to Olmstead and BYU.

BYU hit .172 (Hamson hit .091) vs Santa Clara .320 and they got smoked - 14,21,15

Kind of hoped they would be playing some cheesy porn background music when they introduced him.

Olmstead could easily be the lowest paid coach among the the Final Four coaches (even Salima probably makes more than him).

That's always been the schedule. Convention starts Wednesday night. The committee gets done Tuesday with their decision. Thursday is the first time they can gather everyone together.
