Congrats to Micha! Extremely deserving for this award. Apparently she wins award and gets her bag stolen in the same day. Hopefully that bag didn't have her uniforms in it. I heard Carlini stole her bag because she felt that award was hers ;-) Haha ;-)

B1G congrats to Micha, Russ, and PSU volleyball! I remember pondering why Rose would sit Carpenter after having just won a national championship, but Micha really developed into a wonderful player. A lot of people thought the award was between Micha and Lauren, so I'm happy to hear people giving the nod to setters! Since she's graduated and is leaving Happy Valley after the tournament, has she been picked up by any professional teams yet? Does she plan on training this spring with the national team? Weather she's good enough to set for national team who knows. My question is do they have serving specialists on national team. She could just put everything into that aspect of game maybe? What do u think ?

didn't realize until last night that she had verbal-ed to Tulsa and wasn't apparently a highly recruited setter. Now she's NPOY. Hard to believe she'd have had the same career playing for Tulsa. Well-deserved and going to miss watching her play next year! Hope to see that serve for the Olympic team someday! She commited to Tulsa as her sister was in her final year. The setter situation at PSU didn't work out with the heir apparent leaving the program (never to resurface in WVB again for some reason). Russ went after Micha and she opted to leave Tulsa, a coaching changed was part of the reason, I believe. She was a hitter on her HS team, not the setter. Are you insinuating Rose went after her before Ed Allen resigned as coach of Tulsa?
I believe she had already signed her LOI before Allen resigned.

What do u think ? If Micha can develop into a solid digger, I would love to see her become a serving specialist. She would likely sub in for Christa to serve like the way Tori Dixon does now. One thing to consider, though: Karch has moved away from topspin jump serves and prefers jump floats. Larson, Fawcett, and Robinson all floated their serves in the past couple of tourneys.

I am sorry but chances that Hancock ever makes it to the national team is slim to none. She was a great college athlete and quite possibly the best server we have ever seen in the college game but unlikely she will set for Team USA she isn't better than Glass to me or any of the others in line fighting for that spot, as a serving specialist I couldn't see it as others have said and anyone who watched Team USA win the WC this year no a attack serves.
Hancock though has had the collegiate career others can only dream of she's already won one NCAA title and will try to make it 2. Couldn't picture her going out any better than NPOY.

So happy for Micha, the super competitor, to be rewarded for her great determination to excel on the court. Her best may be still to come.

rare ... but i believe it's happened a couple of times. 2010 -- carli lloyd was NPOY, and alex klineman was the pac-12 POY 2005 -- christina houghtelling was NPOY, and sarah pavan was the big-12 POY Best 2 players in country just happened to be in the same conference this year. Big Ten POY went to the one who won conference. If PSU has won Big 10, Hancock could have won. Just like if Carlini won regional final, she could have won NPOY. To the winner go the spoils. I wouldn't call them the best in the country. The best at their position. Vansant, Lowe, Hamson, Adjanaku are all deserving and equally amazing at their positions. But I won't call them the best in the country. Though I will say, I'm not going to disagree with the selection either.

Love how no one is giving her chance on national team. Maybe she doesn't. If she tried my bet would be on her though. She has been defying nay Sayers her whole career. Like byu's motto, "why not her"? I certainly wouldn't bet against her

What do u think ? I think in the system that Karch runs, there is definitely room for serving specialists. He seems to be trying to run a modified 6-2 with limited subs, using Courtney Thompson in the back row. So all things considered, a back row rotation or 2 with the added bonus of a kick ass serve would work.

Probably depends on who is serving and their specialty. I think with a Hancock, and having someone that can switch it up from a jump float, can change the pace of the game and put a team out of rhythm.

Why must there be always be someone on here that makes such an incredible honor, a negative. Im a huge Illinois fan and I can still respect and enjoy someone else's genuine success EARNED award. Don't sell these young girls short, especially this one, no need to be a jacka$$,save that for another page. Congrats Micha -every bit of it earned!

Whoa are you related to her or something I was just addressing other posters suggesting her national team chances were likely. I was simply furthering the conversation. Maybe you missed my last paragraph where I complimented her plenty she is a great competitor and athlete and as I first saw really thought she was only a mediocre setter who was surrounded by great hitter but I think she has developed into a fantastic setter certainly one of the best in the country. I think there isn't really much of an argument whether or not she is deserving. No need to false hype her as our future National Team setter or server. Its just an unrealistic expectation at this point. Plenty of athletes have fantastic collegiate careers and may never see the National Team. I don't think my comment was in any way malicious or rude.

This speaks volumes to how great Russ and Salima are at developing setters to become the crème de la crème of college volleyball. Like Micha, Alicia Glass was initially a hitter prior to college. Now, she’s become one of the world’s top setters. Do any of the Penn State faithful know what her professional plans are after she leaves Happy Valley?
