Mister "I couldn't blink even if you blew straight into my cornea" tweeted this after the match:
Mike Wolf (@miketwolf) - A #B1GVolleyball team has now won the NCAA title in 7 of the last 9 years. #BestVBConference
What a ridiculous statement.... Penn State has won 6 and Nebraska won one in 2006 as a member of the B12. My Buckeyes haven't done JACK SQUAT to contribute to that except get whipped by the lions 2 (and one year 3). Most of the rest of the B1G hasn't done anything either. Nebraska hasn't made it back to the championship match since 2006. Illinois went to get whacked by UCLA. Exception is Wisconsin last year, where the B1G was guaranteed a championship.
What pisses me off about that statement is that it somehow is supposed to make ME feel better about losing. "Oh look, your rival who kicked the sh*t out of you won ANOTHER championship, don't you feel better about yourself?" NO. I hate it that they won again and I have to listen to more of their incessant chest-beating. It's a condescending view of sports. "Well I suck, but at least the teams that beat me don't suck."
We complain about it ad-nauseum in college football with the SEC, but at least it is more than one team keeping the conference on the top. Without PSU, the B1G has NEVER won the national championship and has only had a CHANCE to 4 times (a resounding 4-12 in sets in those matches). The chest-thumping is ridiculous and any B1G school fan not wearing white and blue should be ashamed of themselves if they are.
Now Mr. "I have something shoved so far up my butt it's coming out my mouth" is just a conference shill paid to prop up the conference, but it still made me what to kick a baby seal.
/end rant
I hate Penn State more than I hate the pilot light going out during a shower.

I always look forward to your posts as they are entertaining but I completely disagree with you. I think that your hate for Penn State is clouding your judgement.
When it is your rival or someone who so consistently dominates the conference and wins its dumb but otherwise its good in nearly every other way. The vast majority of AAs this year came from the PAC I think this was due to conference respect and how good all the teams performed pre-season allows for better competition and being more prepared to face tougher teams come the tournament. It benefits you in recruiting when your school can say do you want to play for us cause we compete with the best and you have a chance to potentially be the best and beat the best. Conference loyalty can be silly but it serves a purpose. As far as other B1G schools well someone needs to step up to the plate before they can really root for each other until then it should be the race to see who can beat Penn State.

I think you misunderstand. While yes, I would like nothing better for PSU to go 0-for the next decade, I love that the conference is good. It toughens the team and makes the Buckeyes better. It certainly is a boom for recruiting and increases the profile of the school and program to be in a prestigious conference. But what I can't stand is the sense that somehow PSU winning 6 out of 8 straight titles says ANYTHING about the quality of the rest of the conference. This is one team dominating everything and everyone. It doesn't say squat about my team. I begrudgingly root for them in OOC for RPI reasons, but other then that I care about the success of MY school and MY program. I take pride in THEIR victories and achievements, not the number of AA's the rest of the teams we play get.

I don't hate Penn State. I've always admired the program and Russ especially. But I hate that they dominate the B1G and I'm tired of all the titles. They are the new Stanford. Who roots for the overdog? Team fans, sure. But it doesn't make us bad people to want someone else to win the B1G and the NC.
Actually, I can't root for PSU, Stanford or Texas. Until the top recruits start choosing other schools more often, they are all overdogs.

It doesn't feel like you can "potentially beat the best" when they beat you 33 out of 40 times. And the one recent win over them was when your team basically sucked.

I'm not rooting for Nebraska, however. I have my standards.

He's the dude who does the play-by-play for BTN's volleyball broadcasts... Looks like a vampire after a optometrist appointment

Can't the same be said for nearly every conference?
The PAC-10/12 is basically the ONLY conference who has a bunch of teams contributing to its championship legacy - Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington.
And, the old BIG 8/12 has just 2 different teams responsible for championships with Texas and Nebraska [Note: not sure how Hawaii, LBSU and Pacific were aligned when winning championships]
Conference pride can be extended beyond mere championships. Making the final, getting to the Final Four, Elite Eight, Sweet 16, are real substantive accomplishments and speak to conference strength and depth. And, if you look a little deeper, the BIG-10 has had a lot of teams contribute to NCAA VB success in the broader sense of the term.
Not that I necessarily disagree with you. I don't think fans of one conference school have to feel particular affinity for other conference schools. But, I understand the opposite view as well.

I don't disagree that the B1G is one of the top conferences (it sways between the Pac12 and B1G depending on the year). Top to... erm, I forgot about you turtles and red shiny dudes... almost bottom. BUT, this feels like hanging a championship banner cause someone else you happen to play a lot won it. Tat feels gross to me

Until the top recruits start choosing other schools more often, they are all overdogs. Exactly. Just looking at the whole list of NCAA DI Titles, there's only been 10 schools that's won the Title. Hawaii, Long Beach St. and Pacific won it back in the 80s and 90s. Washington won it once, but that was almost 10 years ago. And the way it seems to be going, I wouldn't be surprised if the only teams that will win the Title from now on will be Penn. St., Texas, Stanford, Nebraska and USC. The only thing that has kept my interest in the Title matches for the past few years, is that the last 5 Title matches, there was a team that has never won the Title before, playing for the Title.

I... actually agree with this. I think conference pride is dumb. It makes no difference.
