PSU will for sure be a contender again, but the loss of Micha can't be understated. Between her offensive prowess and her serving, she wasn't an ordinary setter. She stretched opponents thin because you had to constantly account for her. Most setters don't necessarily put that pressure on an opposing team, even elite setters. Her game was unique and tough to deal with. PSU won't replace that. Even if the next setter is very good in a traditional sense, PSU still loses a lot with Micha moving on.

Every year is different. Every year is a transitional year. On the surface it looks like 2011 but there are key differences. The two setter prospects are both a lot more experienced at setting than Hancock was when she arrived at PSU. And Weiskircher has had this entire year to watch and learn and train and be coached by Rockwell. On the other hand I don't think she or Rivera is a lefty, so that means a lot of things about the position will change for PSU. Also no idea how liberal and DS will look. But if the Pierce sisters are an indication of how much talent PSU has at DS, clearly the Lions will be OK. As it turns out, I'm fairly confident that Wilmarie Rivera is left-handed.

Is Wilmarie Rivera a player from Puerto Rico? Yes. She plays on both their U18 (as captain) and U20 national teams.

She signed her LOI with her left hand, so I'm guessing she's a lefty. www.dignittanyvolleyball.com/setter-from-puerto-rico-signs-loi-with-penn-state-for-2015/

She's definitely a leftie if you watch the video of the match at that same link. Really impressed with her skills based on that video. Check out the set at the 35:30 mark

Would there be a chance of putting Whitney in the middle, and putting Lee on the rightside? I have only watched Gorrell's recruiting video, and from what I saw, she is very comfortable going off one foot but I did see any two feet attacks. Now I did not watch any matches with Whitney in the middle, so I am not sure what she can run. Washington will keep her middle rotations I'm guessing as the slide is her strongest attack.

She can... but I don't think anyone can honestly say that she will. It will be a very interesting off-season battle. I have to think that Weiskircher has the edge now by virtue of being on the team already, but that is not a guarantee. I maintain that, while Hancock has improved, she is still not a particularly great technical setter like Plum or Carlini. I think, in that respect, our setting won't be noticeably poorer next year.... it even has an outside shot to be better. But, in terms of all-around play from the setter position, I cannot envision either Weiskircher or Rivera (or Courtney in some bizzaro move to setter for her) being anywhere near as good of an all-around player as Hancock. You guys are going to love Rivera. Just letting you know. Weiskircher yes is the starting setter for the next 7 months and 25 days. Have fun while it lasts. Post some video that I can see cause from the stuff I've watched she doesn't look better the Brianna. Maybe I'm not watching right video

Does anyone know whether any of the 2015 recruits will be enrolling in January?
