After watching spring play, here is my predicted fall starting lineup for Duke: OH1: Sklar OH2: Bates (DS sub in back row) MB1: Whitaker MB2: Tucker RS: Meyer (DS sub in back row) S: Deichmeister L: Karelov
Bates looked like the most improved player for Duke, others were about the same. I don't think Atkinson played at all this spring, as she was still wearing a boot. It's too bad she's had so many injuries during her career.
I think UNC has the potential to be as good as they were last year. Smart move by Coach Sagula to move Nneuenfeldt to OH; UNC needed to beef up their OH attack and she was terminating effectively and even showed some decent passing. I see FSU & UNC again being the cream of the crop in the ACC this year, with Duke and maybe a few others in the next tier.

I believe this is called Drinking From the Firehose. Also known as the Hambly Method.

This is not a surprise. Other than maybe one exception, over the last 7 or 8 years Coach Sagula has always made it a point to schedule tough. I believe he thinks that will "toughen" the team and prepare it for the ACC season and beyond. It has worked well. For instance, in 2008, the Heels played ranked teams illinois, New Mexico State, Oregon, Colorado State and @minnesota in the pre season. It was grueling, but they did win @ 8th ranked Minnesota to go 6-5 and went on to share the ACC crown with Duke before winning their first NCAA game before succumbing to Oregon 3-1 in round 2. There is no doubt that they benefitted from the tough schedule. This year's schedule certainly appears daunting, but it is apparent that Sagula wants to be considered among College Volleyball's elite and playing a tough schedule could validate that.

UNC, FSU, and Duke have been taking on very challenging pre-conference schedules for a while now. I'm not sure how this year's UNC schedule got this tough other than Stanford coming here because Madison Bugg is a senior and she's from the Triangle. I think they wound up in the tournament with Minnesota and Wisconsin in Louisville because another ACC school dropped out. IT's strange to think that if you based things on last year, the only schools ranked ahead of UNC on that schedule are Stanford, Wisconsin, and BYU. They beat MSU, Michigan, and USC last year. Minnesota didn't make the tournament.

While she is a great player, and will be a game changer for Virginia, she was not the Texas Gatorade POY. Enneking who's going to Oklahoma was.

It made me look at the Virignia recruits. The three I saw listed were 6'3 6'4 and 6'3. Two were projected as middles. They're clearly aiming to get bigger and more athletic. I only saw Virginia once live and once on television, but blocking on both sides of the net appeared to be an issue, though execution in general was a problem in the 2 matches I saw.
Louisville looks to be headed more in a ball control/defense direction.

Any chance that Louisville could run a 6-2 this season? If they did I think it could possibly turn out to be like this.
OH: McClendon/Fairs MB: Clark/Dejong OPP: Jenkins/Blab S: Eaken/George L: Sauer?

I thought George was very effective in a 5-1 and apparently so did the conference's coaches, though they could get Miss Kentucky (Miss America) to be the other setter in the 6-2.

Any thoughts on freshman that could potentially be stars in the conference next year? I don't really know a lot of the freshman coming in for all of the schools.

Would you count Ambrose as a freshman? I think she will be a stud.

I like the names mentioned. Also, believe that Meyers for Duke will be a standout. Also possible that Kelli Kalinoski will take the libero spot at Duke but not sure she will make the all freshman team. I think that Mhairi Agnew will be very strong for Miami even though she is a little undersized for a middle. Also excited to see what Jaila Tolbert does at Virginia Tech. VT seems good at developing players and they have some good raw athleticism to work with in Tolbert.
