Class act. Wish there were more coaches like Olmstead out there. Those girls are obviously learning more about life in general under his coaching/teaching. Have never been a huge BYU fan, but must admit I enjoyed seeing the underdog do as well as they did in the playoffs against some great teams.

Beautifully summed up what sports should be - a life lesson in accepting defeat graciously, and learning to win gracefully. He is so true that the difficult moments in sports train us for the difficult moments in life. So much is made now about "self-esteem", and "everyone gets a trophy for participating", that they are not doing their kids any favors. Olmstead will get great exposure from this, and have plenty of athletes looking to play for him.

BYU gets exposure to Mormons. Fact. Very few non-Mormons are interested in playing women's Vball at BYU. Olmstead is a poor recruiter. He relies on the "Mormon-card". I think he has one non-Mormon on the team: C.Parker ...and she wasn't recruited by him. BYU is in for a big drop-off. Hamson gone. Gray is great but can't play back line. No depth. They'll do ok in the WCC, but nationally they won't make much noise in the future. Great performance in 2014. Congrats. But I don't see a repeat in the near future.

Well, then, I guess it's a good thing so many Mormon's are talented volleyball players. And somehow I doubt he plays the "Mormon card". As with any religious institution, it takes a special kind of kid to want to go there if they don't believe in the religion the school is grounded in. You don't see a ton of non-catholics at Notre Dame. Or non-Baptists at Baylor. More often than not, the religious requirements at these types of schools are too much for those who don't believe (far less so at Notre Dame, than Baylor or BYU). For a non-believer at BYU, not that the people aren't wonderful, inviting and truly caring, but their education is grounded in religion. That's tough and not super appealing to non-religious kids. So, if that is what you are calling the "Mormon card", then I guess I could agree with you. But if he isn't getting great talent (which he clearly is) then I guess it's a good thing he and his staff are training their kids well enough to make the NCAA Finals.

Since he made it to the national championship with all but 1 Mormon then the "Mormon card" is his ace! Best play it. Just like they did in the 80's and early 90's. Way to suck the love out of da room.

This is your fourth post? I don't know who you you are, but all I can think is this, which kind of makes me an ass. But that's OK, it's not my first rodeo.

Does anyone know why Olmstead benched his starting setter Camry Willardson well into NCAAs? Did she break a team rule or something?

I have no inside info, but looking at this box and play-by-play, it appears that Robins-Hardy earned the starting spot mid-match at Arizona. stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=73740
