Does anyone know if she will be on scholarship? She does not look THAT great. It would add depth to the right side, I think Beth Prince might be considered first for right side.

She is eligible to play in 2015 and will give Hambly more depth this year. He now has the option of starting Prince on the left side.

She was so much hype coming in, and I want to see her finally rise. She is pretty consistent, the only problem would be that she does not kill the ball as fast as Birks does. Mmm I'm not sure why, but this new recruit does not scream Illini vball. I really wanted to see Hambly pick up Autumn Bailey from Marquette, that would have made the team at another level.

Naya's a good player to take a flyer on, if only to provide depth at the pins. Looks like Hambly has 5 viable options for 3 spots on either wing, assuming they run a 5-1 helmed by Poulter. I'm sort of cringing at the thought of a 6-2 with Viliunas, which isn't meant as much of a knock on Alexis as it is a seal of approval for Poulter - she's just that good.
If I were Hambly, I'd give Jordyn the keys to the car Day 1 and let her fly.
I think the only OH/Opp that has a spot locked up is Birks, so it'll be a fun battle-royale between Stark, Prince, Strizak, and Crittenden for the other 2 spots.
This sort of mirrors the situation Naya left, as Oregon is stacked on the wings with incumbents Bettendorf, Shebby, and Agost trying to stave off incoming Frosh Vander Weide, McLaren, and maybe Page looking to supplant one of those returnees if Scott runs a 5-1. If Naya had stayed, that would have been 6-7 players competing for 3 spots.

All college volleyball fans, all B1G volleyball fans (both East and West teams dominated by B1G recruits), and Fighting Illini volleyball fans should view the 2014 Under Armour All-Star match. The two Illini recruits MB Allison Bastianelli (playing for the East team) and setter Jordyn Poulter (playing for the West) had an outstanding match. Poulter was the MVP for the West and I thought Bastianelli should have been the MVP for the East. Bastianelli was clearly the go to hitter for the East by the end of the match: youtubehq.com/watch/qG1ihhGZcSA

I would not completely discount Roustio on the left side. She did well in a couple of critical situations towards the end of the year. She hits harder than Strizak, just not as smart. I couldn't tell who was the more effective blocker. She had both good outings and bad outings.

She'll work out the kinks with play time. The transfer touches 10'6 that could make for a great blocker, add that shes a lefty and it's a natural spot for her, with 2years experience.

She was great when we played PSU, but other than that she did not have a great season. When coach put her in for a sub for Criswell she did not perform better than Strizak. Strizak looks like she has a better block and swing because I think she can jump higher than Roustio. I think Strizak can be great but she just has not gotten a lot of playing time. I also feel as though she's not as confident hitting after she gets blocked or gets an error. That a big hurdle she has to get through to be a L2.

Lots of club shifting this year. Beth Prince and Jacqueline Quade both play for Munciana 18s Samarai. Undefeated so far this year, and have only lost one set. Marijke Van Dyke now plays for Sports Performance 16 Elite. They list her vertical at 10’2”. Kaylin Korte plays for First Alliance 17 Silver. Her vertical is listed as 10’0”. Alison Bastianelli still plays for Legacy. Her vertical is listed as 10'3". I think the future is bright. Are there any videos of them playing? I wonder what positions Beth and Jackie are playing since I know Carly Skjodt has been playing on that team for a while I know she'll have an outside position for her. Is Jackie or Beth the other outside, and the who is the right side. Or is maybe Jackie on the bench since she is playing basketball for her High School team?

Here is short video of Kaylin Korte playing in January for 1st alliance silver. She is #17 in red.
Here is video of Munciana Samurai playing earlier this year. Unfortunately, the camera changes sides each time and therefore munciana is always on other side of net and hard to see. I can't tell who is playing but it looks like Beth playing right side. I didn't watch the whole thing so don't know if Jackie plays or not.

Once Birks graduates I think there is going to be a huge void in the team, and I do not know if anyone on the roaster can fill that roll. We need a outside hitter that just dominates. Our recruits are okay, but they do not stand out as like Alexa Smith or Molly Haggerty. Our recruits are often tall and get their kills off usually from blocks or hit the last three feet on the side line. I want use to start recruiting guys that just dominant. I think our recruiting game has to step up. We need someone physical and crafty in my opinion. We have Poulter, she is a great setter but there is only so much a setter can possibly do. Kaylin looks too short to be an outside and she does not look like she would be a great B1G ten player. Quade is tall but she doesn't dominant like she should be. I hope I'm wrong and these girls are crazy good coming in.

I disagree. I think the future for Illinois volleyball has never been greater. Yes, Illinois has lost some recruits to other schools. Unfortunately, all the big schools go after the same girls. You win some, you lose some. I think Illinois will be getting a 2017 OH commitment sometime this spring from a highly recruited player that many big schools are after. With recruiting happening younger and younger, the Illinois coaches are having to make decisions on freshmen and sophomores. I think they just hope they continue to get better but it is a gamble. Hambly saw potential with all these recruits or he wouldn't have made them an offer. Coaches are just having to pull the trigger sooner. They don't have the luxury of waiting until the end of their junior year to see how they have developed before making an offer.

She does a lot for the team, and I feel like these new girls really need to step up especially when Birks is gone. We need a new goto player, and I'm not sure who that would be. I also feel like none of these girls will be red shirted because to be be honest we need all of them as backup.

I'm glad my future employment success does not depend upon my evaluation of what a 14 or 15 year old is going to be like in 5 years, physically or mentally.

As everyone saw with the arrival of a great setter at Wisconsin, I believe setter Jordyn Poulter will have the same impact at Illinois. It should be obvious that having a premier setter elevates the play of everyone on the team. As much as I admire and cherish the ability of Jocelyn Birks to get the point when Illinois really needs one, I believe Poulter will basically be the "GO-TO" difference maker player for the Illini when Birks graduates.
