I just read through this thread and I have to say I'm pretty stunned at what goes on within. I'm not sure if anyone on here has had any actual experience in the game but if you are looking at Birks as a liability you have no clue and you can send her our way. . Congrats on breaking the all time kills record what a major accomplishment and not one of you acknowledged it! I was expecting it to be all over here. Lame.

I was at the game last night and I thought they would of maybe made a bigger deal about it during the game it happened in but I also thought maybe no big deal is how Birks wanted it. They announced it after the match but it was kind of just another announcement. I do not know Birks personally but after the game she was with a bunch of young kids all holding up signs for her and she looked genuinely excited to see them, almost as excited as they were and the kids were very excited. Really showed my kids how big of deal it is to young kids to meet a person they obviously look up to. Pretty neat moment.

Congrats to Jocelynn Birks on the record. A significant accomplishment at a program with the history of Illinois.

Welcome to Illinois Kaylin Korte and Jacqueline Quade! Looking forward to seeing these two athletes play in Orange and Blue! www.fightingillini.com/news/2015/11/12/WVB_1112153813.aspxCoach Hambly on Korte: "Kaylin is an extremely dynamic athlete. She is a little undersized as an outside in the Big Ten, but she makes up for size with her explosiveness off the floor and attacking as well as her passing and defense. She is a similar type of athlete to Laura DeBruler and will push to get on the floor early in her career." Coach Hambly on Quade: "Jacq is a smooth high flying athlete, who's ability to move and jump first caught my eye when she was a freshman. She has turned herself into a great all-around player and will look to compete for a starting spot immediately her freshman year." What happened last night in the Ohio State game? I watched the first set, thought Illinois was good and then left for dinner. After dinner, I find out that we lost the next 3 sets. What fell apart? Or did OSU just step up their game?

Sandbothe took over offensively. Illinois' block dissappeared. As an example: Stats show Ohio had 60 kills with only 10 ILLinois blocks. Illinois had 47 kills (substantially less, yet Ohio had 14 blocks).

Hitting different lanes is a combination of two things the setters placement and the hitters ability. Ive seen both of our OH hit various spots but Im not sure the OPP has the same ability consistently.

Or did OSU just step up their game? The block disappeared. Point blank period. Not saying OSU didn't make the plays to win the match but we were relying on Bastianelli to make the stuffs. Our outsides struggled blocking all night. The Ohio State match, IMO, was a summary of our season. Good one minute, average the next. Disappointing.

Hoping for a long post season- As of late the block has improved drastically and become the difference maker, big step forward! I still think there is room for improvement- better make it quick though. Crittendon / Stadick have incredible abilities for blocking, but appears exhausted after a set and a half of play. Crittendons' tendency is as she tires is to forget her approach, sometimes just jumping in place or tipping/pushing. This really showed up late in the game for IL VS Wisconsin. Strizak has good jumping abilities, which should translate into a good block but does'nt. Strizak needs to be able to hit the entire floor with overspin and not just a predictable, direct 45 degree shot, which is easily blocked and picked up. Does anyone see this ?

It's really frustrating how this team can't seem to get a win against a top 15 team. We have no problem beating the teams we're supposed to beat. In fact, we're doing better at that than in recent years. But we can never seem to put away top 15 opponents even though the matches are usually close. That needs to change if we're gonna do anything in the NCAA tournament.

That needs to change if we're gonna do anything in the NCAA tournament. This team just simply doesn't have a killer instinct. The team that went to the Finals a few years ago had players who flat out knew how to take over a match when need be and to not give teams breathing room. After we destroyed Wisconsin in the second set, we should've maintained that same level of play, but we didn't. Granted, the break didn't help and Wisconsin certainly played better, but we've had this problem all year long. We are a talented team but I just don't see us advancing past the Sweet 16. At this point in the season, you need those players that will fight and claw there way to a win, by any means necessary. I am not sure we have that player.
