Great to hear she is still playing. What a talented player. She really is. It was really a shame how she was allowed to act the way she did growing up. She could've been something special at USC had she stayed. Not sure "how she was allowed to act the way she did growing up" means. Have seen her as a mature young woman coaching up high school players at Serra High in Gardena and have been greatly impressed. The measure of one's contributions and talent isn't defined by a slice of life. Look at the whole pizza. Let the life play out and you will typically see valleys and peaks for most of us. Stay tuned on Falyn. Long way to go.

Who's second setter. Don't see carlini or bugg The lack of appreciation for, or even acknowledgement of, Lexi Dannemiller is so unbelievable to me. She has set Michigan for four years, is second all time in assists behind Lexi Zimmerman, and led the 2012 team to the Final Four. She started this past summer on one of the two, US College teams that competed in China. The team she was on, coached by Mark Rosen of Michigan, fared better in China than did the Pac-12 based team led by Jim Moore of Oregon. She has played for four years in the B1G Ten, a conference a few of you have heard of, and has made their all conference team, including being on the Honorable Mention list this year behind Carlini and Hancock. Head to head with Bugg, Dannemiller is 1-0. Had 59 Assists and 4 Aces to Bugg's 30 Assists and 0 aces in the Regional Final in 2012. Lexi led the Wolverines over the Cardinal in her freshman year as well, on the Farm, in the NCAA tourney. Squashed them even before the Bugg got there. Lexi is good. Quietly confident but very, very talented. Wake up, America!

I witnessed her literally shut her club coach up (Obradovich) in the middle of one of her games during club, and there's a lot more that she's done. She's a great talent and I'm not measuring her by any means, especially by a "slice of life." I'm glad to hear that she's matured. Having a baby does wonders to people. Hope to see her play on Friday as well as everyone else. Should be exciting!

A quiet leader, but confident in her abilities. As for saying that she had "no outsides this year" I think that is a little bit of a put down to the freshmen that busted their tails to help Michigan get to 8-12 in conference and 13-17 overall. Lambert was named the B1G's Freshman of the Week once and Knop, all 5'8" of her, made the 7 person All B1G Freshman Team, led the team in attacks and second in scoring, behind Cole. Yes, losing Juniors Davis and Murphy who were projected as the starting pin hitters before the season began hurt tremendously, but maybe not even as much as the Wolverines having to play their entire out of conference schedule without Dannemiller, sidelined with mono. Look for the competition to heat up in Cliff Keen in 2015. Michigan's roster will be a stout 18 players, and with the arrival of Carly Skojdt (Gatorade Player of the Year in Indiana and Under Armour East Team MVP) on the outside with the return of Davis and Murphy, and the experience gained by Lambert and Knop, it could provide the Maize and Blue with lots of options on the pins.

I agree though, she's a very nice setter, but aside from Cole, she had no one to go to this year. Michigan has a nice recruiting class coming in. I've always though Skojdt was a lot better than Beth Prince, and I think Cori Crocker is extremely underrated. However, who's gonna set? Neither Zhou or Warner are anywhere near Dannemiller's level.

Who is the next setter for Michigan? I also don't see Zhou or Warner starting next year. Is it the incoming freshman?

Who is the next setter for Michigan? I also don't see Zhou or Warner starting next year. Is it the incoming freshman? Warner clearly has the inside track as she set the first ten matches of the season in 2014. And while Michigan only went 5-5 in those matches, there are plenty of other things to point to for the .500 record before you could pin it on Warner's setting. Losses at Oregon and Oregon State, at home to North Carolina and Kansas State and a road loss to Arkansas the first weekend of the season with newbies on the pins contributed as much as anything. So 4 of the 5 losses came to NCAA tourney teams, 3 of the 5 were on the road and 2 of the 5 were 5 set losses. Add to that that Carly hadn't played in many competitive matches for over two years and was coming off of minor, off-season knee surgery, and there is no reason to believe that with a spring under her belt and the expectation of being the one over the summer, that she wouldn't do a fine job this next season. Cindy Zhou came to Michigan as a very highly rated setter, and part of Prep Volleyball's Senior Aces. For whatever reason, it has yet to happen for her, but this could absolutely be the year that she hits her stride. She will only be a redshirt Sophomore in 2015, has all of the skills, tools and ability you'd want in a setter, but has simply not played in enough competitive opportunities to evaluate whether or not she can be a starting setter in the B1G. As for the "incoming freshman" you reference, the only setter in the 2015 class is Maddy Abbott from Southern California. Maddy is a very talented player with solid experience at both the High School and Club scene. She certainly has all of the genetic competitive spirit and drive that you could ask for as her father is Jim Abbott, former Wolverine and 10 year Major League pitcher. That said, while I'm sure it will a competitive gym come August, most believe it would be a surprise if someone other than Warner is running the 5-1 at the end of August. Come 2016, Michigan has a verbal commitment from MacKenzi Welsh from Plainfield East (Illinois) and Mizuno Sports Performance, considered by Prep Volleyball as one of the top 50 Juniors in the country. We'll see what that competition looks like come next year, but with Erin Virtue both recruiting for the Maize and Blue and working with the setters, I would rest assured that Michigan will be more than capable at the setting position.

Are you supporting the argument that it makes it even more impressive what Dannemiller did to help Michigan stay in the hunt for an NCAA berth until the last three matches of the season, or hammering the Freshmen that stepped in to roles that neither anticipated filling?

I just think you're being a little sensitive. No one is attacking anyone. Dannemiller is exceptional, and the freshman performed admirably, but the lack of talent available to Dannemiller was obvious.

Not sensitive at all. Just confused when people make obvious comments. You are right that they didn't have a single elite in hitter in 2014. To move on, do you think that they will have one in 2015? Do Ally Davis, Kelly Murphy or Carly Skojdt meet your definition of elite?

When Michigan defeated #6 Stanford in 2011 in the NCAA tournament Lexi was just a freshman. She had 44 assists, 5 aces, and 11 digs in that match.
