PrepVolleyball.com article today about Alex Acevedo, class of 2024 (that means she's currently a 7th grader), who committed to Oregon shortly before the May 1 communication cutoff.

getting younger and younger. Here is some footage against a local 14's team (she's 24 black). There is more than 1 quality D1 prospect between these two teams.

Anybody who fails to see this cradle robbing as ridiculous has more than one screw loose.

Anybody who fails to see this cradle robbing as ridiculous has more than one screw loose. How is it robbing anything? The "commitment" is certainly not binding on the kid. She loses nothing if she later decides that she wants to go to a different college or simply reopen recruiting to see what's available - which happens somewhat frequently. I think the ones with the loose screw are those who try to make it seem like this is somehow "robbing" or taking something from the athlete. For them, it's win/win.

I support the new recruiting rules and think it is more advantageous for everyone to push the recruiting timeline back to when they are older. It had me uneasy to see how it seemed to just keep pushing younger and younger.
I understand, however, that the implementation of the new rules created an odd sense of a deadline where athletes had to make a decision or end up in a quasi-black hole with schools they were speaking to for quite some time. I also see how those who were very firm in their decision (and being local is a big part of this) would prefer the security of a commitment. And so, for this athlete, in this situation, it makes sense. I know there are other athletes in the 21/22/23 classes who are choosing to wait till after recruiting opens up again with the new rules, and the staff supports making it work on a timeline that the student-athlete is comfortable with.
In short, congrats to Alex, very happy to bring another Oregonian on board - and see you in 2024.

Will be interesting to see how many times the recruiting rules may change before she even hits her junior year.

2018 Season Oregon Highlight video. There was a thread a while ago with many teams videos, but I can’t find it. I’ve probably watched this highlight video four times. Gives me all the feels. Reminds me of the great squad they had last season. They will be a very young team this coming season so not sure how far they’ll go.
