The City of Hermosa Beach posted a public notice in the Easy Reader advising of a public hearing on February 3, 2015 to consider an AVP Tournament on October 2 - 4 at the volleyball courts North of the Pier.

Holy FIVB mystery, Batman!!! That fits perfectly when you look at the US slot reserved for that date on the FIVB schedule - how cool would that be? 3 FIVB tournaments on U.S. soil in the same year???

OK, there goes my idiot theory - just read the Easy Reader Notice and clearly it is an AVP request. Since the FIVB calendar lists the championships as running from Sept 29 - Oct 4, it is clearly not the FIVB event they are seeking permission for. Imagine how silly I look, thinking that the FIVB and the AVP might actually work together for everyone's benefit!!!

Hey Woodandsand! Was that an honest question, or your subtle way of letting me know that they are obviously working together in St. Pete? I think the world of Donald Sun, and he has been so great for the AVP so far and so nice to us "normal folks" at the tournaments that I fervently hope that he is willing to work with the FIVB to further the sport, especially here on U.S. soil. My inherent skepticism, however, goes wayyyyy back to the initial Sinjin v. Karch diatribes and their subsequent impact on the AVP pretty much wanting nothing to do with the FIVB for many years. I sure hope things are changing, and I hope that both groups would see the folly in having and FIVB and an AVP tournament here in the US on the same weekend, which is why I was admittedly disappointed to see the AVP applying for a permit for a 2 day event in Hermosa during the same time period that an FIVB US tournament is listed on their preliminary schedule (without a location being disclosed). This seems especially true in light of the fact that the AVP and FIVB seem to at least have compared notes during the past several seasons to ensure that tournaments are rarely, if ever, held on the same weekend. Kind of personal for us as well, because it would sure suck to have to decide to travel to either an AVP event or an FIVB event on what looks like an end of the season weekend stateside!!!

Rumor has it AVP is working with FIVB on the St Pete stop, hence why there may not be an AVP stop in the area this year. Hopefully that is false and there will be both stops

Its unimaginable that Donald Sun is spending his time with the AVP in any arena other than to raise the brand back up and move on to a solid fully loaded domestic tour that supports itself and promotes beach volleyball. It is highly unlikely this is a "last ditch effort" for him. You can see it in his eyes if you've talked with him....We all USED to judge things that way, eye-to-ey...no so much anymore, but some folks DO run with a personal commitment and I believe the AVP is moving that way...IMHO...
