I will say this again, what I'm most impressed with is her ability to see the block, then redirect the ball without sacrificing much pace. It's incredible. That, and she appears to be more comfortable waiting on an OOS high ball, resetting her approach=, and taking good a swing, whereas during the last quad I found her to be rather weak in that regard. yup, last quad she looked like she just wanted to hit everything down. Granted the opponent in the video isnt the highest level, but when you are taking the ball as high as she is, and hit it that hard to corners, it doesnt matter all that much who is on the other side of the net. I will say again, that we do not have a player on our roster that can do anything even close to what she is doing. I've never been a huge DHook fan, but its pretty undeniable that this is world class talent. If you had a swing for a big point could you name more than 5 players in the world who you would want to take that swing ahead of her? I can name three (none of whom are on the USA roster, though), but I still like Destinee's chances of getting it done.

Obviously, I do not know all the ins and outs of Destinee not being on the team; but I really am a bit disturbed by the back story that Destinee is being a petulant child and Karch is being the tough love parent. I really hope Karch is not being too rigid in this situation.... and dictating rules. They are both adults.... they need to come together and agree on terms. Just like here in the corporate world.... the top performers often get to make their own rules... or at least bend them. Karch is a coach of talented adult women..... he is not a parent. I hope he gets that. Based on some of the stuff I've read and innuendo on this board, I'm not so sure.

AS a volleyball watching fan, I would like to see Destinee Hooker on the National team. There are few superstars in the sport, we need to promote them as they will promote the sport. The sheer athleticism of the superstars attracts new followers, otherwise volleyball is a boring sport to the casual viewer. My male friend, huge basketball, football fan, watched the NCAA game with Hooker and Hodge, and stills talks to others unfamiliar with volleyball about the match. He talks about them in the same reverence as Lebron, Kobe, Curry.... We need our superstars It would be great if US wins, I just want to see her play, like Kim on Korea, like the Brazil team, etc. There are just those players who are special Karch is NEW TO COACHIG.. so why is everyone taking Karch's side over Destinee. THIS IS HIS FIRST HEAD COACHING GIG, part of coaching is managing personalities. Maybe Karch is an arrogant a$$, who doesn't like to be questioned. And Tom and Hooker are head strong women who are not afraid to question. Don't know the situation but not willing to take sides and automatically condemn the players. First the players have a history playing on teams and not getting kicked off.

Loved watching her roof Nicole Fawcett @ 2:14 To put into a little perspective, the Fawcett highlight reel of the same league, same year has her blowing multiple balls right past Hooker in the last section. Yes I know Hooker's very awe-inspiring athleticism, but these are highlight reels. In one exchange, Fawcett digs a pipe ball from Hooker, then takes an awkward out-of-system set from the left back and buries a pipe ball in the 5. (Two things to note on that one--in the slow-mo replay, there is Hooker in defensive stance with her hands together very low between her knees...STILL, and after her teammate misses the dig, her body language sure looks like she's about to go into one of her "why didn't you dig that!?" fits. Ok, ok. So I'm not a fan--of her scoring skills, yes. But nothing else.

If you watch the entire match in which Destinee went down with the injury, there were maybe 4 or 5 occasions where she literally ended up on her hands and knees after an attack. Although her physical ability is world-class, her positioning, approach and footwork are not. Her injury was the result of landing on the opposing player's foot, but in reality, the longer she plays, after child-birth and as her body naturally gets a little older, it's just as likely that she could suffer a different type of injury stemming from her poor fundamentals.

It really would be a shame if our most qualified and capable players are kept from the team, or any sport, unless they’re doing something illegal. Like the poster above said, imagine the NBA without the Kobes and Lebrons… BORING!
Sometimes I wonder if Saint Karch is threatened by Tom and Hooker? Both are players that transformed their sport and garnered worldwide fame. In the last quad, if you watch the timeouts, Logan seemed to shrug off his comments or not look at him directly when he spoke to her. Really, she couldn’t look any more bored in some of those timeouts. IMO Karch is doing a disservice to Amerikuh, the fans, the players involved, and the sport itself by keeping our most prolific players off the roster. If he doesn’t bring Hooker or Tom to Omaha this summer, I’m gonna be p*ssed. I didn’t spend over $300 for VIP tickets just to see Gamova, Sheila, Kosheleva, Thaisa, Kim, Brakocevic, Naz, Castillo and Bossetti. I need me some Hooker and Tom this summer! I celebrated a little when Marichev invited Gamova back to the team, and I hope Furst goes back to the German NT. It’s seriously a shame to see the best in the world not compete with their national teams. Otherwise, like Kokyu mentioned once, all of the NT rejects worldwide should become citizens of Andorra or Scotland and rise up against their teams.

vbkidd111, Why are you not fan ? Because you don't like her ? Yeah, I know I'm in minority, and that's ok. I do not deny her great ability, and I definitely do not claim to know her personally at all. It's just that I get this vibe from her that's she not about winning above all else, and when it comes to someone with that much talent, it just turns me off. I could be completely misreading things, and so be it. Just my feeling for now.

There are reasons other than doing something illegal that should keep people off teams. Lack of respect, effort, refusal to adhere to team rules........... At this point, lets hope Karch's goal was to send a message, and that there is some maturing on Hooker's part. We may look back on this in two years and recognize it as a pivotal point in the US team becoming great. I have to believe Hooker and Karch both wan't to win a gold medal.

Ok, agree, but what team rules do you think they broke ?? These 2 women are some of the most competitive women in sports. Hooker did volleyball and high jump, that is not a lazy person. Tom has continued to play at a high level for years and not given up. So what is Karch expecting of them that other coaches were able to manage.

And Tom and Hooker are head strong women who are not afraid to question. Don't know the situation but not willing to take sides and automatically condemn the players. First the players have a history playing on teams and not getting kicked off. I could not agree more with this view point based on the current information at hand. Karch is probably the most decorated Men's USA Volleyball "player" (again that is player and not coach). He has played and been coached by the best, but he is still young as a coach and needs to understand this is not coaching a college or high level club team. These are some of the best players in the world and are women and not men so a coach needs to adapt to those changes, and understand some personality quirks will arise and "one size fits all" rarely works.
I know this is apples and oranges, but on a much larger scale and stage, do you think Coach K has a "one size fits all" approach with his Olympic basketball players? In the last Olympics you know Kobe, Lebron, Melo, and Durant were the superstars; each with a different level of ego that needed to be stroked or guided in the right direction (yes, all the players on that team were superstars, but the four mentioned were the alphas), and Coach K was on record saying he spent more time communicating with players individually while coaching the Olympic team because they were all superstars and he needed to make sure each one understood what was expected of them, their role, and what they needed to sacrifice to achieve Gold.
My point(s) are...... 1) USA Volleyball does not have a team, or four players that are considered the best players in the world like basketball, so we have to make sure the few we may have (Hooker being one) are on the team. 2) It is the coach's responsibility to adapt and overcome any communication obstacles and bring all the players together so they understand their individual value (stroking/guiding), role, and what sacrifices they may need to make to achieve the team goal (GOLD).
Again, I do not have inside knowledge of the details between Karch and Hooker, but my comments above are universal for coaching. Also, It's not like Hooker is Hope Solo!
