So there are two Showcases in Denver this weekend, right? BioKats and the Crossroads (don't know official name, but it's at the convention center). I have never gone to either of these, but was considering it since I will be there in time this year. Can someone tell me which one is more popular for coaches? Which one are most coaches going to? Thanks in advance!

Huh. Biokats sounds similar to the Vegas Unrecruited Senior Showcase, where girls who haven't been recruited yet go to try to be seen. It's Friday (tomorrow) evening 6-9pm, timed to coordinate with coaches who are there for the Crossroads qualifier. No idea how many coaches attend it. Colorado Crossroads is one of the top USAV national qualifiers (https://coloradocrossroads.org) and will host many of the top 16's to 18's club teams in the country from Friday morning -Sunday. Coaches will definitely be thick at Crossroads.

Many coaches catch the AM waves as it hosts the Open divisions with some coaches remaining for part of the afternoon waves depending on the talent pool they are interested in. Also, universityathlete.com/attending/2540 list colleges that have confirmed they will be in attendance.

Additional info: I had never heard of BioKats so I looked it up. The showcase is going to be held in Thornton, which is no where close to the location of Crossroads which is held at the convention center in downtown Denver. They do not list any colleges that have attended in the past, future or present showcases, so not sure how many make the drive to Thornton or how many players participate.

Watch out for the large bear at the Convention Center.

I happened by the convention center last night to watch High Performance tryouts and saw the combine going on. I'd say there were about 70 kids participating; I do not suspect many were seniors. The staff was doing a lot of filming and high tech assessment for the AVCA's VPI (Volleyball Performance Index?) they are trying to introduce as a metric for volleyball aptitude measurement. That part was exciting to me.
As for college coaches watching, I do not recall seeing any.

Most college coaches see these events as big money makers for the people running the showcase. In my experience I see the same type of players: 54 liberos, 35 setter/DS/middle hitters, 47 OH/DS, and 7 middles under 5-10. There might be 2 sophomores that have potential and all 8 of the college coaches that are there follow those 2 kids around.
This has been my experience at these. Coaches, save your time. Parents, save your money, unless you've made arrangements for a certain coach to come watch you there.

My DD participated in a few showcases last year as a freshman and I found them to be less than effective. She did have a few coaches contact her, but overall we received more interest from coaches at the actual tournament we were in town for. IMO it wasn't worth the money with an extra day of expenses on top of the showcase cost itself.

I appreciate everyone's opinion about these Showcases. I work for a club and am very hesitant to promote these. I do think the PrepVolleyball Unsigned Senior Showcase is worth the seniors time if they are competing in Las Vegas.

My DD is working with an awesome private coach right now who is not afraid to correct her and make necessary changes to get her ready for the next level....money well spent in our eyes!
