Looks like a better family life and a faith centered school are big reasons for the change even with less $. I can respect that.

Pretty sure Concordia is paying much less than the $112,000 she made at Irvine

Equally sure that at this stage of her life, going for the job that pays the most isn't necessarily her top priority.

Nobody knows anything? Who's applying? Who would be good fits? While I understand UCI has been down, HC jobs in SoCal don't open up all the time. My vote is for Jamie Morrison, assuming he would agree to not do both (NT and UCI) which got Paula in trouble in the first place.

It's a great location, but it costs a ton to live there ... $112K isn't going to cut it IMO. Add $50 or $60K to that, and maybe you've got a salary that can get you a pretty nice two bedroom apartment. If you have spouse that works and brings in $100K+, then maybe you can afford a house.

Perhaps that makes it more likely that they will hire someone who is local like Larsen or Hilliard or Pestolesi or Zimmerman or Nollan or Bodipo-Memba or Tanner or Morrison or ...
I think there are some pretty good options right here in our own back yard. Am I leaving anyone out?

Maybe because she didn't like that a better qualified coach was her assistant and the players responded better to him than her?

Maybe because she didn't like that a better qualified coach was her assistant and the players responded better to him than her? You think Jamie is more qualified than Paula? Not more qualified. But someone who knows his stuff as well as Paula and can actually relate better to the players. I guess that's probably most of the coaches applying though. Paula's biggest faults were that she couldn't motivate the girls as their leader. The players enjoyed Jamie's style more while he was there. Personally anyone they hire and any of the names mentioned I think would be an upgrade.

I agree that Jamie is more personable than Paula, but not that he necessarily "knows his stuff" better (well, except literally perhaps). In the natural volleyball hierarchy of schools in the Big West, UCI should be competing with UCSB for 3rd place.

I know a very good coach who is very qualified that applied and hasn't heard anything back. He has a major resume and not one reply.

It's still early, so I wouldn't necessarily read anything into that. The real issue is whether UCI wants to commit to bringing in a quality coach or goes the Fullerton route.

I expect the hire to be extremely underwhelming.
