Isn't hunter supposed to be fairly good? And Tashima is pretty good. (From the matches I did see, but she is more of an overall player than a great setter). If BIRKS does win POY, that will be a shock IMO. Carlini is the clear front runner for POY. If she can lead that wisconsin team to at least 3rd place, she's my vote. Also, she's going to have to hit ALOT better to get POY. She only hit .234 last year. While thats not awful, its certainly not POY numbers, even though she averages a lot of kills. The only way I can see her getting it, is if Illinois wins the Big ten. Other than that, I don't think she gets it. IF she does get it, ill hand it to you though because I don't think anyone else would predict her as POY. As I recall WF you've never been a Birks fan. Not sure what your issue is with her. One of the hardest working humble players in the league putting up consistent big numbers. I'm sure shed prefer a national championship over any individual award, the opposite of the one you thought was a " force" for the illini. As far as setting it will make the world of difference for this team just as it did for Wisconsin when Carlini came in. I haven't looked at the stars in depth but I bet their hitters percentages improved significantly. I have literally NEVER posted about birks before this. I have never posted anything negative or positive about her. When you can link me to what I said, that would be great..... And I barely post about Illinois. The only time I do if its a b1g thread and its ranking the teams, or if they play someone. Other than that, I had no idea Birks even averaged that many kills per set until I googled her stats.

You make it like its a glaring omission. Like Vansant or LOWE or Hancock being second team. Birks had second team numbers. Could she be first team? Sure, but she also could be second team. Instead, you should be happy she even made the team. Hawaii has none, and I certainly feel MAGILL deserved it, but you don't here me complaining. This is literally the only thing I ever recall posting about birks and that was because you were throwing a fit saying she belonged on the first team over burgess.

We are talking about 2015 aren't we.? I was telling you the only thing I've ever said about birks. You claimed Ive never been a fan, like I hate her. I don't. I don't know enough about the girls play. Only seen her play a couple times and she was good. Not amazing, but definitely AA worthy. Do I think she will be POY? No. Do I think its possible however? Yes

Yes I think you are over reacting. No one said anything about hating anyone. Maybe I've got you confused with another WF and I don't have the time to dig through right now. I don't know if shell get it or not. Imo I think shed prefer a championship, either way I stand by what I said, the setting will have a huge impact.

IMO I think that Birks and Carlini are the top two runners for POY. Maybe Washington or Franti in the mix. It all depends on where the end in conference. I really hope Birks gets it next year. She's done a lot for that Illinois team and is deserving for that award. She stands out to be because she was not highly recruited unlike Carlini. So that meant she had to have progressed a lot from high school to college.

OH: Birks (POY - calling it now), Frantti, Courtney MB: Washington, Cole, Tapp OPP: Whitney, Foecke, Drews S: Carlini, Poulter, BIG drop-off to 3rd L: Morey, Wong-Orantes, Donnelly I pick Carlini for POY (surprise), think Cuttino might sneak in behind Cole for the best MBs, and I predict Garvelink will have a big season for MSU. I also think Abbott at Northwestern and Skjodt at Michigan will be players to watch.

Carlini will most certainly be the front runner for POY by a good margin, she is the best player in the league by a good margin IMO. Let's put it this way, if there was a draft among big ten players, Carlini would probably be the unanimous #1 pick by every coach in the league if not country.

Players not mentioned that probably should be in the discussion:
OH (I don't think any of these are top 3-4 which includes Franti, Birks, Rolfzen, and Coutney, but any of them could be for 2015) Renig - solid hitting numbers, but is not a 6-rotation player which hurts her in comparision to other OH Bates - Would like to be able to quantify her serve return? Santana - of the players mentioned, only Birks had more K/Set. Will need to increase her hitting % which could come from overall team improvement.
MB: Nelson - I think one of Nelson, Sandbothe, and P.Tapp are the 3rd choice behind Washington and Cole.
RS: A.Rolfzen - She plays 6 positions which is a big plus Fitterer

I would take Courtney over Franti, too. Courtney is much more versatile and has shown that she can step up her game in big moments. I agree 100% And furthermore, Courtney started the season opposite (and Whitney, middle)- their individual offense statistics aren't 100% reflective. Which can be a further argument w/why Frantti slowed or cooled down the second half of the season. First part of the season; Frantti terminated much more efficiently than Lee or Courtney. Once Washington entered the line-up Courtney and Whitney were in better positions to score- Micha had more offensive options and didn't need Frantti to carry as much of the load. Or teams had more video to scout and game plan against Frantti? The consensus across these boards favor outsides who are 6 rotation players- which is highlighted in this years' AA. Not to say that Frantti won't be going all the way around next year. But as of championship point...

Who are the freshmen to watch? Who do we think will make the biggest impact on their team? Who (sight unseen) are we thinking will be a contender for B1G All-Freshman team and FoY?
Tionna Williams, Wisconsin - With Carlini setting her, she'll be scary. Jordyn Poulter, Illinois - Better the setter, better the hitters. SSS, Minnesota - I really think that of all the freshmen in the B1G, she has the biggest potential to raise her team's level of play. Carly Skjodt, Michigan - She looks like she will transition nicely to the collegiate level. Mikaela Foeke, Nebraska - Power hitter. 'Nuff said.
Who am I missing?

SSS is a good call as dark horse for FOY. It seems strange to think of such a highly recruited setter as a dark horse, but people aren't talking much about Minnesota because of the down year. If SSS can help that team step up a gear from last year, then her apparent impact could get her into the conversation definitely. They still have good attackers. They were really young last year, a bit more resilience in the middle of the floor and more experience may just allow the gophers to improve substantially.

She's obviously got the size to be a huge threat at the net and now with year of experience playing at this level, I think she could surprise some people. Skjodt will be interesting to watch, too. She was impressive in the High School All-American game and will definitely be one of the best freshmen in the conference, although I'm not sure she'll be one of the top players overall just yet.

She really could be the missing link for this team. How much she will raise the level of play I can't say, but it's safe to say there should be an improvement. The blocking (excellent) returns for MN, plus they have a nice mix of explosive (see: Santana) and more tactical hitters. Passing is improving dramatically from what I understand as well. Much better than a couple years ago. Should be a fun team to watch.

Shouldn't Annie Drews from Purdue be in this conversation?
