We can't really be seriously thinking that the Under Armour match was very informative about what is likely to happen. It was a hot mess. Definitely not, all star games and even the skills competition are meaningless. Putting a bunch of athletes together that have minimal (or zero) experience playing together when there's nothing on the line doesn't result in any insights into the players' skills or ability in the college context.

Who are the freshmen to watch? Who do we think will make the biggest impact on their team? Who (sight unseen) are we thinking will be a contender for B1G All-Freshman team and FoY? Tionna Williams, Wisconsin - With Carlini setting her, she'll be scary. Jordyn Poulter, Illinois - Better the setter, better the hitters. SSS, Minnesota - I really think that of all the freshmen in the B1G, she has the biggest potential to raise her team's level of play. Carly Skjodt, Michigan - She looks like she will transition nicely to the collegiate level. Mikaela Foeke, Nebraska - Power hitter. 'Nuff said. Who am I missing? You are missing Alison Bastianelli. That girl was definitely under the radar girl, but watching that Under Armour All American, she looked like the go-to player for the East side. I think she could have been the teams MVP. I personally thought she out performed Tionna Williams. She was more dynamic than Williams IMO. I figured I'd forgotten someone. I remember being impressed by her. However, I do have to agree that we can't take the UA match for much. Team East really struggled with ball control, so the setters couldn't run any kind of decent offense. They were also running a 6-2 for a good chunk of the match, so Bastianelli and Williams were fed by different setters, and they couldn't run the slide. I'm sure Bastianelli will do well at Illinois, but I also think Williams is the real deal.

Bastianelli might start for the Illini. Lot to learn going from club ball to the Big Ten. Bastianelli will not be a top 10 middle next fall. She might be as a sophomore. Same goes for Williams. For some reason, some outstanding players at michigan, michigan state, purdue, and Minnesota often get overlooked on this site in favor of the players from nebraska, penn state, Wisky, and Illinois. Next fall, these eight schools may be tighter than you think. Add OSU as well.

And I do agree to your post. Every season it's honestly really hard to tell who's gonna stand were at the end of the season. Michigan State to me looks like they will be a very good squad, especially with the addition of their transfer Bailey. I can MSU beat Wisconsin, Illinois, Penn State, or a Nebraska. Every night is a tough night for these teams. We can't look past teams that didn't do well in the past two years. Every night for these ladies are gonna be tough.

Interesting that Nebraska is going to be a league favorite next year despite not having any of the best players in the league.

Interesting that Nebraska is going to be a league favorite next year despite not having any of the best players in the league. It is a team sport, after all, and they play very well as a team. I'd put Kadie up there with one of the best players in the league.

I'd put Kadie up there with one of the best players in the league. I don't disagree that they dont have players amongst the top in the league, but if they don't have the top players and everyone thinks they have poor chemistry, how could they be one of the favorites? It seems that you win by either having top talent or great chemistry or both.

Interesting that Nebraska is going to be a league favorite next year despite not having any of the best players in the league. But one team may one ONE best player aka wisconsin at setter but the other positions are less than nebraska. PSU has the best OH and MB, but lose a lot with setter and libero and we don't know if Bryanna can lead the offense. This is offsetted by us knowing hunter is a star, because of their trip in china, and cook himself saying she could of started. Wisconsin has the better setter, but Nebraska out matches them at OH and Opp (if foecke plays Opp). MB I say its a tie. Libero is also close one, with morey getting the edge. Like people have said, its a team sport. Nebraska may not have the best players in the league, but they have an outrageous amount of talent, and overall, are good, if not better than every team besides PSU. And regarding your chemistry issue, I'm sure cook will find a way to straighten that out. Im sure hunter will also play a big impact in this. Overall, the other top teams lost too much, while nebraska lost very little and the very little they did lose is an upgrade. And they also have a man who can flat out coach volleyball. Cook can do marvelous things with a team.

Interesting that Nebraska is going to be a league favorite next year despite not having any of the best players in the league. It is interesting observation but understandable. The libero might have a argument though.

Interesting that Nebraska is going to be a league favorite next year despite not having any of the best players in the league. Don't think this is entirely fair. Kadie Rolfzen and Wong-Orantes have been mentioned prominently and Foecke is the probably one of the two main favorites for FOY. If they do better this year there could be more, but people will generally stick with what they know in these lists and of those still with the huskers only Kadie got onto the all B1G last year. Interesting that Holman isn't on anyone's list...but I think that is also just down to people projecting from what they've seen in the past, and they just haven't seen Holman in the B1G. Kriskova being set by Carlini could equally make a splash, but no one is mentioning her either.

IF she could, I would consider nebraska the absolute favorite to win the b1g
