I knew about Mary Martin. Unfortunately, I've actually never seen Mary Martin's performance so I can't judge her. Well, I CAN judge her if I were religious and catty and just an awful person. I've listened to the OBC Soundtrack. Mary doesn't hold a candle to Julie.

Newsies was just amazing. More than worth the drive toTucson. And never have I felt a drive to Tucson was worth anything. Yes,can you imagine Doris Day, Shirley Jones or Anne Bancroft as Maria? ??. They were all considered. Julie just set the bar so high. Perfection. Anyone see Moulin Rouge? Interesting Sound of Music bit in that weird or brilliant film-haven't decided. A film can be both weird and brilliant. I like Moulin Rouge! a lot. I need to watch it again. I was not prepared for the weirdness-kinda threw me.

Mary Martin and her collaboration in many of Rogers and Hammerstiens musicals is a fascinating story. The OBR versus motion picture recordings are in general fun to compare. My Camelot one featuring Julie Andrews very proudly advertises on the jacket that it is recorded in STEREO

I also love Julie OBC My Fair Lady. Really a shame she wasn't cast in Camelot or My Fair Lady movies. But then she wouldn't have done Mary Poppins or SofM, so I guess it all worked out.

Saw "Wicked" again last night. My 15th time .The two leads were outstanding. Two of the best I've seen. If it's coming to your town, I highly recommend it. Oh, and thank you, daughter, for not going into labor so I could go!

Last week, we were in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Decided to go see the Coaster Theatre production of Little Shop of Horrors.
Never liked the movie much (Steve Martin, Rick Moranis) and since it was a local production by a mostly volunteer community theater, my expectations were very low.
But it was outstanding. Very talented performers. Flawless production. Great singing. And very funny.

This is so not us, but my husband and I decided last minute to go to NYC on Friday. Had a couple buddy passes that were going to expire. We've seen Matilda (really good), Les Mis (unbelievable cast), and Aladdin (GREAT! REALLY GREAT! FUNNY!). Seeing Mamma Mia tomorrow, then headed home. Musical overload, but loving it. Also seeing 9/11 memorial tomorrow.
Love the hustle and bustle of NYC.

When I taught college (I will not tell you where I taught and what I taught), I used the "People Will Say We're in Love" scene from Oklahoma! for one class session.
