"iF/Then" is in town this week. Starring...............wait for it..........Idina Menzel!!!!!!!!!!! Very few stars of her stature do National tours. But this role was written for her, so she agreed to do the first 5 cities on the tour. The four leading roles were the original Broadway cast, also. Quite a treat!
It's a story of choices, and how a seemingly insignificant choice can have tremendous consequences. It follows a woman's life according to a choice she made - to answer, or not answer an unknown caller on her cell phone. So, Idina plays this woman, but on two different paths, simultaneously. It can get a bit confusing, but I read every synopsis I could find before we went, so I followed it pretty well.
4th row, dead center for Idina Menzel. Holy crap. She did not hit a bad note. The other characters also had AMAZING voices. Lots of little girls there in blue princess dresses to see/hear "Elsa". Good grief, parents. Read the age recommendation before you buy a ticket. "Strong language and adult situations. Recommended for 13 and older."
Not my favorite show. Not even close. But to hear Idina up close, live, was awesome. I even waited at the stage door for her to come out and got her autograph. Goofy, I know. There were a ton of people, but she signed, took pictures with all of them.
My first show of 2016. Got some good ones coming up.

Ok, I'll play. It's not a favorite (not even remotely close), but it's got an earworm, as described below.
So last week, seriously, I couldn't remember how to spell chrysanthemum (not even sure if that's still correct). And then, suddenly, before I knew it, this song appeared in my head. IT HASN'T LEFT FOR 5 DAYS!!!
Report back when the song leaves the rest of you!

Anyone else watch Grease live? The opening was great. Personally I thought Julianne Hough was fantastic! - perfectly cast and imo a real triple threat. The constant commercial interuptions howeverruined it.

Very impressed with Grease Live. Technically it was amazing! Lots of Emmy nominations I predict. Julianne Hough really surprised me. Had no idea she could sing.
Fan girl trivia: Danny played Fiyero in Wicked. School principal was Elphaba in Wicked and the funny lady singing with her husband (Will Ferrell) on SNL Auto mechanics teacher was Jan Brady from the Brady Bunch. Frenchy (Carly Rae Jeppson, "Call Me Maybe" and Marty played Cinderella on Broadway.

Watched it last night - loved the concept of breaking the fourth wall from the get-go with Jessie J wandering through the sets and dressing rooms during the opening song. The production values and cinematography were outstanding. I did think the leads were the weak link (although they weren't terrible). Hough was at her best dancing (naturally), and has a decent singing voice - but she isn't much of an actress. And the guy playing Zuko is a good performer, but looked about 40 years old. Travolta and Newton-John showed more chemistry in one glance than these two did in three hours.
The cast in general was quite good, with some fun casting - Didi Conn (Frenchy in the movie) playing the waitress, and the guy playing the network executive was Doody in the movie version. Using Boyz II Men to do a Motown take on "Beauty School Dropout" was interesting, but it worked. And Vanessa Hudgens - who knew? She was very good.
The Bride of GeddyLee has made me sit through all of the live TV musical productions - Peter Pan, Sound of Music,The Wiz etc - and I though Grease was by far the best one I've seen.

There was more chemistry between John T and Olivia NT Also must confess I have never been a fan of Olivia Newton John which I realize for my age demographic is hard to imagine. Maybe my age now also made it easier to buy Julianna as the "young innocent"

You sat through Peter Pan? You must really love the Mrs. I didn't like Boyz ll Men. It's Teen Angel, not Angels. They mumbled. Good thing I knew the words. Usher would have been great! Yes, Vanessa Hudgens was great. Her father died the night before. The show must go on!

Every Game!) and crank up my 3-D action flicks (Mad Max, Pacific Rim, Guardians of the Galaxy etc). In return I sit through live musicals, The Voice, and America's Next Top Model (now defunct, thankfully). It works.

We had wanted to go see it in the theater but ...So my dear husband agreed to rent Beauty and the Beast tonight. I really liked it one of the few remakes that stood up to my memory of the original. Not surprised that seemed darker in live action and so well cast!

Not surprised that seemed darker in live action and so well cast! We're about to put it on - although without our five year old, after our older daughter said it might be too dark for the kiddo. The wife is very excited. As am I , because I get the next pick, which is going to be John Wick 2 - guns, gore, Keanu and the always awesome Ian McShane.
