Some video from the trip so far... 06/30/2015 USA vs KGC (scrimmage) 07/01/15 USA vs KGC (in uniforms) 07/06/15 USA vs Brazil (certainly not the ladies' best match) USA CNT Women vs. Chile tomorrow at 3:00pm local time... www.gwangju2015.com/IRS/eng/vo/engvo_volleyball_match_results_p2_womens_w400_3_05.htmThe men turned things around tonight and beat the Koreans 3-2 in front of a pretty fun crowd. I am hopeful that the ladies will get things turned around tomorrow and show us a different side of this team for the last 3 matches. Winner of USA/Chile match plays the winner of Turkey/Suisse... And for the record, the CNT (Women) was put together after the USA NT Tryout in COS back in February. 5 CNT teams were selected; 1 is here @ WUG, 1 was on tour in China from June 16-26, and 3 were in NOLA... "Team USA" is spread pretty thin with teams all over the globe during this time frame, so its a bit silly to expect this event to be the #1 priority in this case. Its also true that these athletes (or their schools or parents) foot the bill for this trip. It is an amazing experience, and they're trying not to focus on "excuses" like the fact that the team was together for only one practice prior to arrival in Korea, but yes, most other teams not only comprise older (and in most cases professional) players, but also came together 1-2-3 weeks or more prior to the event. The Finnish team, for example, has only players that are members of professional clubs, and they have a solid (and older) team. Losing to them was unfortunate, and I'm sure the girls would like to have that match back, but it was hardly ridiculous. The bottom line is that these athletes are here representing their country, and are working hard to figure things out and start winning matches. There are some fantastic young women here that are working to improve daily, and deserve some support from back home; even from the trolls... Khat Bell and Hancock look good. Solid connection. The outsides had a real hard time terminating and the passing was a little iffy.

Watched the qtrs today, I suspect Japan will beat Brazil in the final. Really tough draw, had hoped to see the us team.
Is anyone here for the semis or final? Very few fans of any teams here, including the neighboring ones-they bring in the ajumma cheer squads, which are just great.

Boy was I wrong about the pools rematch.
Brazil gave away the first set but Ukraine earned its other two set wins, perhaps motivated by the men's five set comeback.
As soon as Japan and Russia lined up, I knew I'd be wrong about that match too-the height difference is stark. Not saying it was Crimea bad, but there was very little resistance to the Russian offensive. Russia swept Canada last night but it was awkward at times.

The last one with Finland is on its way. It had some issues that forced me to send a hard drive to my video guy, but as soon as he gets it and uploads it I'll post it here... Sorry for that...
