I really think that holding the 18's division at LSC, all they way in HOUSTON, is a terrible idea. Not only does it hurt the players (some teams aren't even playing, due to the location) who are playing in this age group, but it also hurts the recruiting game as well. Unsigned seniors still looking for a home? Keep looking. Colleges looking for unsigned seniors? Not going to houston. 2016 kids playing on 18's team? Sorry about not being seen.
Why not move one of the unrecruited age groups to either the first weekend (10/11/12), or move the boys? Or even put all of the 15's playing together the first weekend? Wait. That answer is because of the recruiting of top 15's. I would think that there are more people who need/want to watch the 18's , than those who Need/want to watch 15's. I understand some will, but only the TOP d1's are doing that, and they can afford to have someone there a weekend early, or in Houston.
I can't imagine that they have heard many good things from this move.

Is this a USAV decision?

No it's a Lone Star Region and North Texas Region decision.
The Dallas convention Center had another event going on at the same time probably and they were probably short 15-20 courts, so instead of the 125+ courts plus the convention arena for the college classic they had last year they only had 100-110 courts. They then figure the 18's draw the fewest paying attendance because many girls from NTR drive themselves and their parents may attend the last day so they would move them to Houston where the facility rental is less expensive, but they would still cover costs.
In the end it is all about the money.

I wonder if they are going to charge the college coaches. Would the 18's be a separate event on UA or would it be a part of the total Lonestar package.
I'm surprised there aren't more complaints from the college coaches, let alone the teams and clubs.

some college coaches prob didn't even know and won't be aware until that week when they are making hotel/flight reservations. This is a HORRIBLE idea from the region. Fallout will be vast via word of mouth if not on the blog

I am a college coach in Texas looking for unsigned seniors and will be traveling to Houston because that's where the players will be. I would much rather it be in Dallas however.

From what I understand from a conversation this past weekend... USAV has reallocated 18s bids for next year... some groups that have had them in the past lost them - and they may not be associated with other age grouped events... If I understood correctly this was entirely a USAV decision... thus my prior question.

Great, I was wondering if they, the tournament, were going to do the right thing and not charge double.

What's so bad about Houston?

What's so bad about Houston? Having one of the top three attended National qualifiers send the 18s to Houston and the 15-17s in Dallas makes it hard to recruit both places.

Yes the split is a problem. This hurts team attendance. Then teams see a weak small field and rumor has it some very good teams are withdrawing due to the limited field. We will see next week when pools are announced.
