So, simple semantics question:
Is Minnesota State - Mankato generally considered to be "Minnesota State" and everyone else gets the city attachment?
(sort of like - University of Wisconsin - Madison just goes by University of Wisconsin, generally)

Minnesota State is a recent name change, so I can't tell you if it's catching on or not. I still call it Mankato. Minnesota State is Coach's school, wherever that is.
And Moorhead is just confusing things more.

I have been looking forward to this day for longer than I should probably admit - although, I know I'm not the only one.
My bet is that we will see the probable "starters" in the Concordia match, with all players seeing large chunks of playing time for the rest of the matches. Should be great to see how everyone is meshing and improving.

I won't be able to make it due to NCR championships. I hope for some decent reports on here.

I also won't be able to be there because of the NCR tournament (happy thoughts appreciated -- man, the JO season is long). I hope those of you who can attend will share lots of details. I think it's such a good idea--celebrating Minnesota college volleyball--I hope it goes well. Thanks in advance for any good highlights you share.

Hopefully the Gophers can hold both to around 17-18 points per set. (Honestly not sure how these cross-division matches will go!)

(sort of like - University of Wisconsin - Madison just goes by University of Wisconsin, generally) I think that officially both Moorhead and Mankato have "Minnesota State University" as part of their title--as in: Minnesota State University, Mankato and Minnesota State University Moorhead. And. yes, Mankato adds the comma while Moorhead does not. Who knew? :-) The rest of the State University system 4 year schools use their city or geographic location, followed by "State University", as in: St. Cloud State University, Bemidji State University, Winona State University, Southwest Minnesota State University and Metropolitan State University. I think that all of them were known as State Colleges (including Moorhead and Mankato) until 1975, when the Legislature waved its mighty wand and made them all universities. ;-)

Metro State, eh? They don't have athletics, right? I wonder if that's coming ...

I usually hear people say "Minnesota State" for Mankato (or sometimes Mankato State, with the older generations) and "MSUM" for Moorhead. (Or "MSU Moorhead.")

Starting Hannah, Paige, Rosado, Wilhite, Swenson, Goehner. Han on RS.

Using a modified 6-2 with Han and Beal on the RS and Schau and Swenson as the setters. (Hannah and Swenson in together and Schau and Beal in together.) Beal and Hannah both aggressive. Wilhite a bit tentative, especially in the back row. Goehner is aggressive.

Back row play a bit uninspired so far in the first match but not terrible. Goehner excellent back there; Rosado with some good digs. Swenson with some really pretty assists.
