Why am I yelling at my iPad, as if they could hear me from here?

The short serves. They drop. They're killing our receivers. Bates aced twice, dang it.

Haiku?
Short serves hurt us against slovenia too, they just didn't do it that much. There was a period where they found a hole just in front of Murray and W-O that gave them three points. Maybe the Hungarians scouted. They had the videos on line to look for free.

I somehow got flipped into haiku mode.
First two set impressions are that we were hanging with them. It was mostly the same lineup as yesterday: Bates/Birks, Murray/Janota (or Slater), Peterson/Drews, and Wong-Orantes. And it worked.
Specifically with the reception errors, Bates got aced twice by Hungarian #6 with short serves that just dropped precipitously right in front of her. But other than that, the passing was not bad.
There were a couple of good rallies in there. And Drews pretty much had open season on the Hungarians. They could not get up to block her.
I will say that this Hungarian team is both a stronger serving team and a stronger serve-receive team than the Slovenians we played yesterday.
Onto sets 3-4!

Not so impressive team serve receive stats. 15 RE in 3 sets, including 8 between Bates and W-O. Must have been amazing Hungarian serving and the difference maker in sets 1-2. They are playing with a different ball over there.....it is very hard (over inflated) Notoriously difficult to pass. Wong Orantes and Bates are 2 of the better passers in big ten.

Ah, that explains it. Chan may want to get a few tips from Tom Brady prior to today's rematch with the Hungarians. He's a B1G guy, would be happy to help out.

I got called away from the replay last night, and only got to watch set 3 before falling asleep. That one minor lineup change caused a huge kerfluffle. Missed defensive assignments - or who knows what they even were - and bad connections with the middles. Bates came in for Lambert, probably to shore up the passing, and promptly got aced. So did J-WO, by the same server, I think. Bates didn't really help as much offensively, though. Peterson's a good setter, but she needs a stronger pass than some, and she doesn't run as quick of an offense as others so the block had plenty of time to line up. Drews still killing it, though. Oh, and our block? Wherefore art thou, block?
@axldahlgren is right about the ball. Serve it hard, with just the right spin on it, and it's tougher to pass than a Micha serve.
Drews talked about the match in her write-up yesterday. Said those latter sets were mostly down to communication problems in a new lineup, but realized that's not a good excuse. "I think it hit us today that our time is limited, and great players and teams figure it out ASAP - not just afterwards, when reflecting on it." (http://www.bigten.org/sports/w-volley/spec-rel/061315aaa.html) True dat.
Looking forward to the rematch today!

The big team isn't actully all the best players from each team. If it was they would be a lot better.

Birks has an amazing arm, she not the most athletic or jump the highest, but she's so efficient and smart...and strong. Bates plays like a libero in the back row, hitting % needs to increase tho. I love wathcing Sandbothe, she's a stud. I didn't get to see the match but read the stats. 30 digs for a non athletic player..Not bad.

I think she did awesome. A lot of these big hitters aren't used to playing back-row and are forced to in European ball. She did great. Sandbothe had a nice break out game as well. Noticed that Goehner joined W-O at Libero. Interesting... Maybe giving W-O a rest??? Who knows

After reading dig numbers, I have concluded that digs in Slovenia are worth 3 points. That is only explanation for dig numbers compiled by B1G team today.
