Collins can be a very good setter, I think any consistency issues will disappear when she moves to a 5-1. Playing in all 6 rotations will help her get into a rhythm rather than going 3 and out. In theory a 6-2 is better because you have more options, but if you look at college volleyball over the last 20-25 years, the only teams that have won titles with a successful 6-2 are 2002 USC and 1994 Stanford..and 1994 Stanford's setters also hit front row. I'd like to see Texas switch to a 5-1, as I think it will make them a better team. Also, I don't buy the short setter argument for a minute. Lindsey Berg was in multiple Olympics running a 5-1 and she is all of 5-8 or 5-9. Carp set PSU to a title in 2010 and teams weren't able to punish PSU for her smaller block. Misty May was all of 5-9, as was Bonnie Bremner. Robyn Lewis was all of 5-9 or 5-10 playing on bad knees and set Stanford to a title. Taller setters have their advantages, but in Collins you have an extremely athletic smaller setter who can pound on 2 as a lefty. And when she blocks, she'll have 2 outstanding blocking middles helping to close the seam so hitters most likely will not get a ton of 1 on 1 chances. Add in the fact that Courtney Thompson holds her own at 5-8 against the best players in the world and you can disprove someone's opinion that playing a 5-7 setter in college would hurt a team.

Why on earth would taxes not be a team to beat!? I think we can agree that Taxes always win in the end. Although, Death trumps Taxes!

Well, considering that her height has literally nothing to do with her ability to set the ball and run an offense, it probably works pretty well. I can think of a dozen things I'd be more worried about. It affects her ability to play the position in division 1. She cannot block at the elite level and will be used. So rather than 1.5, we'll make it a round 2. Now you're changing your argument. First, you referenced her height being the reason she can't play as a setter. Now you're referencing her blocking ability. Clearly you believe that the two are the same thing, and they absolutely are not. Being taller makes it easier to present a bigger block with less effort, sure, but a bigger block isn't necessarily a better block, and being tall has nothing to do with being explosive, nothing to do with being able to read an opposing setter, nothing to do with being able to read an attacker's shoulder, nothing to do with being able to recognize tendencies, nothing to do with being able to make adjustments, nothing to do with being able to be efficient with your feet, nothing to do with being able to appropriately time your block, nothing to do with being able to press and be strong and disciplined with your hands finishing violently back into the court, and nothing to do with communicated with your pin/middle blocker about setting/closing. Also, you're aware that she's only in a position to block for half a game, right? And, even when she is in that position, she only blocks when an attacker is set in her zone, right? You never hear about a setter's inability to play floor defense as a reason why she can't be a setter. Again, I can think of a dozen other things that I'd care about before I started worrying about her height. You know nothing about Collins' ability to block. You just know that she's 5'6".

I would like to thank everyone for exceeding my expectations on the drivel that has been spewed since Nwanebu made her announcement Friday. I was talking with a buddy and he was of the opinion this thread would die a page or two after she made her decision and I hotly disagreed. I had said it will easily get to the official Vegas over/under of 83 pages. He kept telling me people have better things to do (he does not come on the board that often so this was like taking candy from a baby) and was so sure he bet me a bottle of Scotch (not to exceed $100), but made me agree to 85 pages and then said it had to have a time limit like a week. I, LMAO (he just is oblivious to the behavior in this forum) agreed. One stipulation was I was not allowed to post on this thread once we made the bet Friday so I have not been on the site. My buddy just called and was pissed and let me know I won. Here was his main complaint.....ROFLMAO!!!! "Who is that bigfan character and why does he have to make the same post like 10 times? ?? Texas cannot pass, Texas cannot pass" So a special thank you to bigfan for your predictable behavior, without your commitment to be the regular Texas antagonist I may have had to sweat this out. Also, a shout out to Holidayhusker for staying engaged for no apparent reason.

That's a sure fire way to get Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum to jump in on how she's 5'6" and can't play setter and shouldn't have been recruited. Would be nice if both could move on from the fact one's protege was passed on by Texas and the other's offspring was passed over. Oh but wait I've said too much... It spoils their anonymity and ability to throw bitterness out there disguised as opinion.

I have never seen so much crying and sniveling from panty waisted fans just because a few of us commented that we don't think Texas has lived up to its potential and talent level. Do you all realize how hyper sensitive and ridiculous this is? Let me see....we have endured as Nebraska fans opponents trashing Cook, Kadie, Amber, Polmiller, the middles, our facility, and the list goes on. There has been dozens of pages of less than positive comments about the Huskers and the tough Texas fans have been squealing their outrage when we dared to say underachieving. Lordy. You are right about one thing. Surely we all have better things to do with our time. Now go back to crying over your virtue.

Rose thought so much of her as the team's setter that he immediately replaced her the following season and reduced her DS role even further her senior season. He understood her "setting" the team to a championship was more to do with the rest of the team. This is just wrong....Carpenter beat out a very good Mikinzie Moydell for the starting spot at the beginning of the season and was arguably the MVP of the Final Four and title game even though the award went to McClendon. She was light years better than Texas's setters in the semis and completely outplayed Lloyd in the title game. She did lose her starting spot as a junior, but she was beat out by Micha Hancock, who would go on to be a 3x First Team All American and AVCA Player of the Year.

You make ludicrous statements that's why. Like a 5-7 setter can't set because of her height. or Texas should play a tougher schedule. Just stupid stuff that needs to be b1tch slapped down.

The facts bear that out, you and the other lame Nebraska fans are hoping deep down inside that you don't get sent to Austin this year. That my friend, tells you everything you need to know.

Holiday, when posters attack Nebraska, tell me if you've ever defended against it? I agree with you, I have read some ridiculous comments made about Cook, those players you've mentioned and more. Cook is near the pinnacle of success in his field, so I can't understand why people do it. But I have to wonder if you ever respond to those comments, because when a longhorn fan responds, you think it's "panty-waisted." If you don't respond to those kinds of comments, how do you react and how can Longhorn fans have a better reaction?
