Is it just me or did anyone else noticed how Coach Haley constant verbal coaching during the match last year? I have been watching pac12 games for awhile, and I have never noticed that about him until last year. He was telling the hitters and the blockers when to to jump and when to block/ hit as the game is being played. I thought that was weird...That must have been frustrating for some players

I haven't seen a clear "win" for UCLA in recruiting in a long time. Kylie Miller? Torrey Van Winden?

Wallace Ford is a stud. Saw her in a couple Cali tournaments last year, I said it last year that she's great, and I'll stand by it. Not sure if she's gonna shine under Mick's system, but in the right program, she's the next Angie Pressey. She's that good, especially for her height. If she was gonna stay in So-Cal I thought she should be at UCLA or USD, but she chose USC, whatev. We'll see what Mick does with her. I'm happy Gillis left, it makes more opportunity for Wallace Ford to get playing opportunity on the left. Why do you assume AWF would be better in a faster system? She likes a slower ball so she has time to line up that big approach. I don't recall Pressey hitting a particularly quick tempo either. Cal and Lloyd didn't really speed it up until after Cutura and she graduated.

I can see why he kept losing socal recruits to Haley cos Mick is a heck of a recruiter. He has been winning the recruiting war against Bananchowski and Sealy since he arrived at USC. I just do not understand how Sealy is losing cali recruits to Jim Mac. To make things worse, he has recently introduced his butt to Jim Moore's foot. Moore has done a great job recently getting the Californian recruits Sealy wasn't losing to JMac. Scambray and Jones both would have committed to UCLA had they been offered. Sealy didn't offer either one. The big loss was Bedard-Ghani when her club coach was Sealys asst. A lot of misses so far. Why in the world did Sealy not offer Jones or Scambray? That makes no sense.

Or he'll tell specific players who to take the ball. Like when two players are indecesive. And he won't wait until the rally ends. He'll even sometimes say setting decision. i remember crone made a decision to set a ball high outside from a pretty far distance, and Haley said "No, Set BIC" .. (Pipe set). I remember he'd sometimes talk to Alex telling her where to hit. He's always talking about the game. In the Stanford 2010 match I remember as USC was putting a freeball over, Mick yelled "Come on Alexis!! Come on Alexis pick up your hitter!!!" Some may not like it, but he's been doing it for awhile.

I recall a match last season where Mick yelled out to Bricio to get ready because the next serve was coming to her. Sure enough the serve went to her. And she shanked it. Now that was entertaining.
I think Mick is still an excellent coach. Everyone has their different styles of coaching and offensive strategy. IMO one season is not enough to criticize Mick's effectiveness as coach. If Mick has a couple more seasons in the bottom half of the conference I think it will fair to question his methods.

Lexi Sun committing to Texas is a loss, but many got out-recruited there....YBG not so much imo. Miller is a very solid setter and should calm the water for a while at that position beginning 2016.

I think they could and did hear him because many times, they looked tentative and restrained in their approach to hit or block. Watching on TV, I could hear him saying something like " wait...wait..wait...NOW!". It was weird. I am not critizing him. He is a proven coach - world class. I actually respect and admire him a lot. I guess I just find his coaching method DURING the match last year to be a little weird. A bit like a helicopter parent.

Not only did he yell out when to do something, but also when NOT to do something, like "No!" to tell his players NOT to block.

She struggled to score once PAC teams had gotten a good look at her, and I think she will have some physical limitations on how well she can terminate. With the setting situation a total WTF and no Lowe, I wouldn't predict a lights-out year for her. (BTW, pretty sure Shebby wasn't the UO player referred to).

Scambray and Shebby MIGHT be able to be that person for their teams.

Where Buechler was disappointing last year was her passing. I thought coming in people had talked about how she would be a good 6 rotation player. I understand she was pulled most of the time because she wasn't an effective hitter, but I remember matches where she was pulled because she couldn't pass.
