We've posted an Unofficial, Don’t Make Any Non-Refundable Reservations Based on This, Schedule for the 2015 Penn State Women’s Volleyball team. What we're saying is, it's subject to change. And we've very possibly introduced some errors. Maybe even obvious ones. We welcome corrections. Here's the link: Unofficial 2015 Penn State Schedule (Might Change)Quick Takes Wouldn’t it be Nice?◦Wouldn’t it be nice to be in State College from August 28th through September 5th? Two terrific weekends of volleyball. ◦It would be nice to see Illinois twice, but the B1G unbalanced schedule (a very good term for it, in more ways than one) doesn’t permit that. For some reason. Don’t ask. Jim McLaughlin’s Fighting Irish◦Somehow that doesn’t sound right. But we will finally get to see a Jim McLaughlin-coached team play Penn State in a non-NCAA Tournament match. Just not that previous Jim McLaughlin-coached team. His new one. The Fighting Irish. Non-B1G Conference Opponents that Did Well in 2014◾Colorado: 20-14 (11-9 in Pac-12; #21 AVCA Poll) ◾Stanford: 33-2 (19-1 in Pac-12; #2 AVCA Poll) (c’mon Tree fans, they had a great season!) ◾Eastern Kentucky: 21-14 (11-5 in Ohio Valley Conference) Non-B1G Conference Opponents that Did OK in 2014
◾Buffalo: 17-15; (6-10 in MAC) ◾Stony Brook:17-15 (7-5 in America East) ◾St. John’s: 19-14 (8-10 in Big East) Non-B1G Conference Opponents that Don’t Highlight Their 2014 Seasons◦Villanova: 13-20 (6-12 in Big East) ◦Mississippi State: 7-26 (2-16 in SEC) (New Coach for 2015: David McFatrich) ◦Notre Dame: 6-23 (3-15 in ACC); (New Coach for 2015: Jim McLaughlin) ◦South Florida: 14-18 (8-12 in American Athletic Conference) B1G in Reverse◦The B1G schedule is pretty much the reverse of 2014 — opening with four straight home matches (two of which will be televised — Wisconsin and Nebraska) ◦On the other hand, we do get to see the Ohio State Buckeyes twice in three days (October 28th and October 30th), so there’s that. ◦Closing with Nebraska. Again. No TV? Stay tuned (so to speak).

Ugh. We not only have to play Jimmy Mac's new team, but we have to GO there? Disgusting. I won't be able to bear watching that match. Ugh.

It chooses to do so and made the choice after Jim took the job. Jim is friends with Coach Rose and has other ties to the PSU program.

That will be a quick 3-setter as your Lions steamroll the Irish. What is interesting in this unofficial schedule is Stanford playing PSU on the 9/5 instead of 9/4. IMO, that's a plus for Stanford traveling across 3 time zones.

The information Colorado provided at a spring scrimmage a few weeks ago has it the opposite way : Friday 9/4 Colorado vs Illinois followed by Stanford vs Penn State Saturday 9/5 Stanford vs Illinois followed by Colorado vs Penn State

I think it's great....could grow into a big rivalry. No self-respecting fan of any other college team should want anything to do with that horrible school. I would've loved to have seen us play Washington in the regular season, especially at Rec Hall. But not Jimmy's new team... Ugh... F that.

That will make for a very long trip since, in all likelihood, they stay on the East Coast and head to North Carolina to play Duke and UNC the following weekend. I suspect they leave either Wednesday or Thursday.

So the decision re the B1G schedule was just to reverse home and away, but to play the same teams in the same order? I think I missed that memo.

I think it's great....could grow into a big rivalry. No self-respecting fan of any other college team should want anything to do with that horrible school... The Notre Dame MBA interviewer asked my friend's daughter, "Why Notre Dame?" Her answer, "Each fall Saturday my dad would root for 2 teams. #1 is of course PSU where he went. #2 is -- whichever team plays Notre Dame! I want to find out WHY, in person." She finished her MBA from ND last year. Father and daughter still speak to each other, just not on a college football Saturday .
