Live feed in HD working, live scoring ON, I think anecdotal stories of your internet carrier issues should not be "projected" onto the AVP organization...Might be better to find out if its working for "most" versus assuming it is breakdown issue of the tournament organizer... I have best internet connection.I have Charter. It was not my isp ,connecting,my provider.I know you rich and west coast, must be nice. I'm on east coast. i have thebest

Anyone watch the final?
Dallhauser just doesn't look like the same player. I thought Sean played very well. Patterson played very well too. I can't believe in the first game how many times Dallhauser got tooled.
Probably nothing, but I noticed how little communication those 2 have with each other. Even during the first game when they were in control and also early on, just now interaction with each other. Very little. Ofcourse I'm watching on TV so can't really see.

Funny, I watched the 2nd game and thought Sean was horrible. Bad passing, getting blocked.. Phil didn't light it up either, but played better than Sean. It was their 1st tournament since August though.

Yea I did feel the second game the wheels spun off both of them. I can't believe what little desire those 2 show. There was a few balls Phil didn't even bother going after. I think that match was finished when Casey/Gibb came back from 18-20 to win the first. Just completely broke Dallhauser/Rosie's back. Hope when they are playing well they get out to ehir fast starts, because they aren't the type of team that can show any resilience to anyone.

Phil already has a gold medal and Rosie has always been known more for his athletic gifts than his motor... I feel like we've all been shocked at the lack of fire this partnership has had because we all put such high expectations on them when they first partnered up. It's going into year 3... They're going to win their tournaments, but isn't it safe to say at this point that they don't have that killer instinct in them? I find myself appreciating Jake Gibb more and more each year - he ALWAYS seems to play with a controlled rage, you see it in everything he does. I don't think it's something that can be taught, you either have it or you don't. I think we all want it so badly because physically they had more upside than any partnership I can think of, but Phil/Rosie don't appear to have a light switch for their "F-You Mode", and more often than not it's turned to off...

I find myself liking gibb more and more also for the same reasons. He just wants it more every single play and that's fun to watch. "Such high expectations?" I dont know if expecting professional athletes to care about winning and losing can really be characterized as "high expectations." I'm not going to spend time looking for it - but I remember clearly when people first saw Phil/Rosie training together in Cali - 2016 gold, potentially the greatest team ever, people saying they were doing things in practice that our game had never seen before. That's what I'm referring to with the high expectations line. Perhaps you weren't in that crowd, but there was plenty of people already praising this team for what could be. The fact that they played the way they did this weekend and still took second only reinforces it. I watched a very uninspired final. Truth be told, the word that came to mind for me was 'lazy'. They weren't squaring up when setting, I didn't see a lot of chases on defense, and don't get me started on the lack of focus on the serving. I don't think anyone that's watched them earlier in their careers would argue that they are playing inspired ball - I certainly give them more credit to think that I witnessed their best effort that match. But again, who's to say that they REALLY want it right now, or if they're just content traveling with their nice AVP salary and flipping a switch on/off as they please en route to cashing in while they can? It just doesn't seem to me like they play with any sense of urgency - and again, for all we know they didn't partner up with the intention of being everything people were hoping they'd be. Not justifying it, just saying it's a possibility.

Resurrecting this old thread from the 2015 New Orleans AVP because it was discussed on last week's Sandcast with Lee Feinswog and Ed Chan as guests. They were talking about the men's finals between Phil Dalhausser/Sean Rosenthal and Jake Gibb/Casey Patterson, and how both teams needed to catch flights later that day to get to the FIVB Moscow event. Tri mentioned that the teams made a "pact" whereby whichever team won the first set would also win the second set so that the match would end quickly. The final score bears that out, as Gibb/Patterson won 23-21, 21-14 in just 38 minutes.
It is interesting to go back and read this thread knowing about this so-called pact. Lots of comments about how Phil/Rosie played like they didn't care, especially in the second set. And now we know, if what Tri says is correct, that they actually didn't care. They were trying to lose as quickly as possible.
Not sure this is a good look for the AVP though. Although it doesn't rise to the level of match-fixing as we've seen in tennis and other sports, it does make you wonder about the integrity of AVP matches.
