Very surprising. Assuming that Rob Neilson will get the job?

Was this expected by anyone? The demands of coaching certainly take up plenty of time, and I respect the man for wanting to spend these special years with his children. All the best to him in his future endeavors.

Was told, him leaving was 100% on him and he wasn't pushed out. Most any job would probably pay him more than what he was making to begin with. Could be as simple as that...

I don't know anything about Gold Medal Squared, maybe he's going to do more with that?
Be interesting to see who they hire as the HC

I thought Rob Nielsen would get the job when they hired Chris. He would be the logical choice.

BYU is a private school with very good funding. Chris gets payed a lot, the estimation for a college head coach for a PRIVATE SCHOOL is anywhere from 80,000 to 150,000 dollars a year. Not very many jobs can match that. I don't understand why people think this about volleyball coaches. I saw this same issue come up with Ferguson and USC as well. Private school coaches get payed more money than a lot of other occupations out there

To say Chris "gets paid a lot" because the institution is Private, probably isn't the best way to gauge how, specifically BYU, pays it's coaches.
BYU is notorious for paying coaches under market value. I personally have no idea what he makes, but I'm coming to this conclusion based off of this reality.
That really wasn't the intent of the post anyways, not to claim he "doesn't make a lot", but that he could almost certainly make "more" than what he was currently making...

BYU considers it a privilege to coach there and pays lower because of it. Now, $100,000 goes a long way in Provo for sure. But I doubt the low salary caused his resignation. He had a father that was gone a lot growing up and doesn't want that for his kids. He can make enough off gold meld all squared to support his family and spend time with them and reduce stress. Win Win Win, IMO.

His girls are 7 and 9. BEST AGES EVER!!!!! Good for him.
The article mentions Hugh McCutchen as a possible replacement. Unless things have changed, he's not a member of the LDS church.
Shawn Olmstead is an interesting scenario. His sister could takeover the women's team.

Lot of pretty big openings this year in Men's D1/D2. BYU, USC, Grand Canyon, Cal Baptist. All MPSF/MIVA. Considering there are only like 45 D1/D2 gigs (maybe 25 worth having), I think this is a big year for Men's openings. I'd consider 3, if not all 4 of these openings as desirable jobs. It'll be interesting to see if current D1/NAIA coaches go for them, or if it'll be Conference Carolina coaches trying to get a better opportunity.

The chances of an NAIA or Conference Carolina coach getting the USC or BYU job is zero.
