I'm a little late here but I'm currently watching US v Russia match #2 with all the services errors right now I'm wondering why they don't switch to the Flistatech. It is much easier to control on the serve.

Flistatec is a Molten ball, all FIVB competitions use Mikasa balls. I feel like the ball is not the reason for the missed serves. I heard an interview where the teams philosophy for serving was described as treat every serve individually, meaning they don't take into account the teams or individuals last serve so the rash if service errors can happen.

That ball is also pretty sporadic. I think it's reason for use was to make the float serve viable again, bringing a rise in service errors and a decrease in passing reception. That's just what I've seen, don't know if there's any data to support this, would love to see that though.

Reid Priddy is dressed for tonight's match. He was wearing a white jersey under his warmups, signifying he is the 2nd libero for the US. That's a good move....Reid can play the spot, Shoji isn't coming out unless he's seriously injured, and having Reid on the bench is great for our young collection of OH. Other highlights tonight: Canada dropped a 3-2 decision to Bulgaria at home (Prince Edward Island) Serbia pulls a 5 set shocker over Brazil in Novi Sad Australia sweeps Italy convincingly in Italy (Jesolo)

You've gotta feel for someone like Paul Lotman who "put in his time".... and probably maxed out his abilities .... to see two young outside hitters who are probably already above him in the depth chart and already making an impact. Its GREAT news for USA volleyball, but it must be bittersweet for Paul.

One other thing..... Does anyone think that USA volleyball has done much to market volleyball as something MORE than an Olympic sport? Even at the games in Chicago, there were posters people were holder talking about "the gold". The changing display on the sides of the court kept mentioned something about "the gold".
Jesus Christ...... winning world league should be a bigger honor than winning the Olympics. I just don't see much effort at really promoting World League. It could be similar to Soccer's World Cup.
While USA volleyball has done a good job expanding the sport recreationally, I think they could really do more to promote these top USA volleyball athletes and find a way to educate the public on the huge global events (world league, grand prix, etc.) where our teams usually make a big impact.
