There was a huge selection of young women to chose from, congrats to all these players. I hope we can see some of these matches and I'm excited to see what Gillis can do with her confidence back.

www.teamusa.org/USA-Volleyball/Features/2015/May/29/Womens-Junior-National-Team-NamedIt interesting that they didn't try to get a team together for the World Championship in Puerto Rico in September. I would imagine there are a decent group of players out there who are ineligible, redshirting or still in high school who would be happy to spend a week in Puerto Rico. Do this trip for the A team but to not even compete for a World Championship strikes me as odd. As for the players on the roster, Gillis and Duello are ostensibly competing for a starting position at Wisconsin, but from training time and two weeks in Europe (if Duello makes it) there is no way for them to be in summer classes, which means they aren't spending time with their team and strength coaches and adapting to life in Madison all the way until the start of practice. Alhassan and Cuttino are already at Florida and Purdue respectively, and Sauer and Poulter are likely starting either way (from what I hear) but I think its an interesting dynamic that had to be considered for at least a few of these players.

Gillis has been in Madison for a week or so. The university has all kinds of summer classes on all kinds of schedules, so she could still take one. I will not argue with you for a moment over the importance of team bonding, but it's worth pointing out that Gillis is already close with Morey and Williams, which does help. Duello is in Madison also. She won't go to Colorado or Europe unless one of the hitters bails or is injured. I'm sure that neither player would have accepted a spot on the roster if Sheffield didn't feel it were a good or better use of their time over the summer.

As for us not competing in the world championships, I find it highly irritating. Why did Cyprus pull out, anyway?

From what everyone heard, safety. It was originally scheduled in Turkey, and got moved because of concerns. But, why Cypress?!?! Then the FIVB moving it to Sept really was just a slap in USA's face, because they knew basically we would be the only ones it really affected. There is still seemingly a huge anti-USA bias with FIVB.

Congrats to all. I thought Orie Agbaji was only 6'1, but if she is now truly 6'3, that's even better.

There is still seemingly a huge anti-USA bias with FIVB. Could be seen as a slap, but curious why? In 17 times of holding this Championship, the US has NEVER even made it on the medal stand, let alone been dominant at this age group. Extremely disappointing for this group of young women, as well as those that worked their tails off to qualify the US team for this Championship last year in Guatemala where they won gold.
