I have some film with the setters playing against each other. This was my first time seeing both of them play and i became a fan of Hilley right away.

I HATE this. When they get to college, perhaps the who's better debate is fair game. But when they are high school sophs? Can't we just stipulate that both are FABULOUS setters with BIG TIME futures?

That is very true but people will still have their own opinions which is fair, i just want to know what people think.
No doubt they are both amazing, but its also just a question it wont ruin their lives

Now I find it funny that you "hate this", when you are the one publishing rankings on who the better player/team is all the time.

The only ranking of players we ever do is before senior year.

I guess that's impressive because they are 16. But neither of them impress me as an elite 18's setter. Certainly not to a level of a Poulter or Pickrell. But maybe in two years...

Shook, and I don't think it's that close right now, and it really shouldn't be. The number of reps that a kid in Aurora gets compared to a hitter/setter from any other club is significant... then add in SPVB's weight training program. It remains to be seen if Shook will end up being the next great, athletic, confident, charismatic SPVB setter once the rest of her class catches up to her (Tortorello, Spicer, Carlini, Minarick sort of, etc.), or if she'll be a robot who can't play outside of the system she's trained in. Both sophomores, both with great potential.

Both sophomores, both with great potential. Very astute observation. All SPRI setters are great, as they are coached great, and get an obscene amount of reps. The few that have REALLY excelled are the ones who are also charismatic, a little free spirited, willful ( I defintely would have added Davis to your list, she was a killer) There is a small downside to that much training and that many reps, and that of course is they struggle to adjust or adapt or are as you said robotic. I disagree with Shook being significantly better than Hilley right now.

Look at Maggie griffin, 2 time JO mvp but saw limited time at Nebraska, or Jess yanz.. There have been so many spri setters..

I have never seen either play, but I am a bigger fan of Hilley at this point, for obvious reasons.
