Are any of these players the normal Turkish starters? Akman and Polen will be in Rio for sure (if Turkey qualifies). The rest...not so much. I doubt Turkey qualifies for Rio.

Bahar and Akman are their starting middles I think. Pole plays opposite normally I thought. I think Onal plays regularly too.

Yes, but their club teams are what they are because of their foreigners. They certainly don't have nearly the same amount of depth/talent as Russia, Serbia, Italy. Olympic Qualification is really lined up against European teams this year. Their best bet is if an EU team qualifies at the World Cup (which is why USA & China will be trying so hard to freeze them out), otherwise they'll need to upset a "better" team at the Euro Qualifiers (which I suppose is possible as they do get to host it).

(And I still think Naz is the best setter in the world, so that helps their chances IMO.) This is a good tournament for Turkey to evaluate their up-and-comers, so losses can be expected. With the addition of Akman, they're going to be quite strong at every other position besides M2. I actually think the shocker out of Europe will be Russia failing to qualify for Rio...

Random comment of the day: Ofelia Malinov is awesome. She is the future of the Italian NT.

I could totally see that. Turkey doesn't have a lot of depth but if Naz, Neriman, Gozde, Akman, and Polen can get on the same page, they'll be contenders for the European Championship.

I have seen nothing from Megan Easy to date that would merit a roster spot in Rio. We still have a year to go, however.

Hodge/Easy can't pass. Shocker! Shankzilla is back and prepared to terrorize.

I have seen nothing from Megan Easy to date that would merit a roster spot in Rio. We still have a year to go, however. I don't see the point really. She couldn't pass when she was on the team in the previous cycle. If an OH can't pass then it's highly detrimental to the team's overall play. If I'm a middle blocker on the Olympic Team I definitely don't want Easy as a target for opponent servers. If the team can't pass the team won't be able to run the middle well. All the other OH candidates for Rio can pass at least reasonably well. The team has enough options and variety in the offense that I don't think they need this MegaTerminatrix that some people have built her up to be. Still, Karch must see some upside to her otherwise she wouldn't be there. But I'm not seeing it. Even at her best she doesn't have the overall package for me.

How cool that we have a player from Pepperdine, Missouri, and UNLV on this team. Love to see the smaller schools getting some love! Who is from UNLV?

If they're adding Larson during the Hong Kong Leg, I wonder who's going home...

Also, it sucks being a European country. They're so many good teams. It will be weird without Turkey, Russia, Serbia or Italy. The Netherlands is also getting a lot better and so is Poland.
