I can't even watch the match after reading what Karch/Easy did. Easy's performance today was very similar to her showing against Serbia during pool play in the 2012 Olympics: USA is up 4-0 in set 2 (at 29:09 in the video): 4-1 - Milena attacks out of the middle, Foluke gets a touch on the ball, but Megan can't control it and keep it in play. 4-2 - Milena serves Megan, who shanks the ball on reception, Tom has to bump set across the court, and Hodge whiffs the free ball! 4-3 - Megan popcorns the ball to Logan OOS, then Jovana crushes it right at Megan. Megan gets subbed out for Jordan, but the look of frustration on Berg's face was priceless: If you're going to mention Hodge during pool play in London, you gotta mention the China match too:

Robinson pulling Hodge aside for a pep talk on passing. Isn't she supposed to be the newbie? Just like she pulled Hill aside for a pep talk on attacking high in the third?

That's a natural consequence of having a limited final roster, and particularly a 12 person roster for the Olympics, which for most is the measure of greatness. But let's be honest, who on these recent rosters truly qualifies as "great" in any kind of historical context? Five are missing who'll be on the Rio roster (Glass, Akinradewo, and Dietzen) or have a strong to good chance (Murphy and Adams). Of the returning vets on the current roster, five have a very strong to good chance (Banwarth, Hill, Thompson, Fawcett, Dixon, and Gibbemeyer). Of the recent collegians, four have at least a fair chance of going to Rio (Robinson, Kreklow, Lowe, and Vansant). Three vets (two on the current roster) are returning from injuries/pregnancy (Easy, Miyashiro, and Lloyd). That leaves only two on the current roster with little or no chance of going to Rio (Paolini and Jackson).

Tied at 12-12 she goes off for 6 kills across front row (and missed 7th by an inch) to put USA up 18-13. For all but one of those points we were in our worst rotation with Hooker serving and block able to camp on Meg. Hoping she can return to that attacking form soon.

And she did it right after tweaking her ankle on Zhang's foot!

Here's how fans on this board operate. 2010-Wow "Player A" is amazing! 2011-Wow "Player B" is amazing, "Player A" sucks 2012-Wow "Player C" is amazing, "Player B" sucks, and "Player A" needs to TTYN REPEAT How is it possible that we cast aside so many greats so easily? Because they obviously don't remain great compared to the competition. I'm referring more to the attitude of castings the elders aside so quickly after a player has one good tournament. I guess I'm just sensitive, after all I'm a Heather Bown fan. :/

Many of the "elders" are in the twilight of their careers. Even if they could be competitive three years after 2012, they might simply be choosing to focus on maximizing income from their professional careers, camps, etc., rather than compete for a supporting role on the national team for relatively little money.

But they grow up to be volleyball players. Who we can then criticize.

But they grow up to be volleyball players. Who we can then criticize. You wait til they're all growed up?! How kind. I have a four year old daughter. She was coloring her Peter Pan children's book with her crayolas yesterday. Her motor skills needed some work so I was blunt with her. I said, "alright look you cack-handed wench you need to color within those black lines. Otherwise it looks like your goldfish ate wax and vomited on Tinkerbell." I gave an honest character building appraisal. (She's already learned to roll her eyes at me but that's just the corrosive influence of my wife...but I'm working on it).
