Entry points for this event should be established after the conclusion of the Yokohama Grand Slam this week.
Main draw teams and wild cards should be announced late next week.
I'm am going to be very curious to see who ends up getting the main draw WC for the US on the women's side.
Will it be Ross/Carico or Fopma/Hochevar? Or could it be Hughes/Claes (probably not, but would be interesting given their finished at AVP NYC).
In addition to the top 3 teams, also on the entry list (http://www.fivb.org/EN/BeachVolleyball/Competitions/WorldTour/2015/event/Teams.asp?TournCode=WLOB2015&Phase=-1) are Branagh/Kropp, Bensend/Urango, DiCello/Van Zwieten, McGuire/Dowdy, Stockman/McColloch and Ledoux/Hester.
I'm sure guest2 is hoping that either because of lack of entrants or a qualification wildcard that Branagh can get into the field.
Men's side is a little less interesting as you have to figure the WC is going to the 4th ranked team (which currently is Dalhausser/Rosental). That may change after Japan, but I would think the 4 automatic main draw teams (including WC) are set.
Also registered (http://www.fivb.org/EN/BeachVolleyball/Competitions/WorldTour/2015/event/Teams.asp?TournCode=MLOB2015&Phase=-1) are Keenan/Allen, Crabb/Crabb, Kolinske/Drost, Mayer/Doherty, Olson/Bates and Slick/Rogers.

What happens if Walsh is unable to play? Does April get a substitute at the original seed she has with Walsh?

It depends on when the withdrawal takes place. Regardless, it will not be at the original seed. Seed points will be readjusted for the substitute. The only time they don't adjust is when it is a tournament like World Championships where the seeds and pools were set months ahead of time.

Would April be able to choose anyone or does it have to be someone not already registered?

Would April be able to choose anyone or does it have to be someone not already registered? That I do not know. I believe it is the discretion of the federation, which is responsible for the registrations, and not FIVB. GLM may have more knowledge in that area than me. I seem to recall from prior posts/discussions that it could be anyone as long as the other partner they registered with is willing to accept the switch. But I could be pulling that from left field and have no source to reference. According to section 2.2 of the Sports Regulations Prior to 21 days before the event, a federation can change, remove or add teams. Between 7 and 21 days before the event, a federation can change, remove or add teams for non-medical reasons. If entry points switch a team from main draw to qualifier, the team is moved. If the switch takes a team from qualifier to main draw, they do not get moved, they just get a higher seed in the qualifier. Between the technical meeting and 7 days before the event, a federation can only change, remove or add teams with a medical certificate. Main draw/qualification status is same as 7-21 days.

So Lucena/Dalhausser are in the main draw with a wildcard and Brunner/Rosenthal are in the qualifier because of NF points for the US weren't high enough to get 3 teams automatically into the main draw.
Ouch. That's gotten hurt for Rosenthal & Brunner.
Fopma/Hochevar get women's wildcard. I don't know who has control of the wildcards in these situations, but how does it not go to Carico/Summer?

Nice to see Hughes/Claes get the Q wild card.

Nice to see Hughes/Claes get the Q wild card. I guess, but they don't really need it. The qualifier isn't going to fill and US will get as many spots as are left.

Because they havent done anything to earn it? They beat one non-qualifier team last week and got spanked by the 20 seed. Jen finished 4th (admittedly with April) Im not saying Fopma/Hochevar are an automatic pick over Lane/Summer, but I dont think Lane/Summer deserve it more

I don't think they deserve it more. still on my youth/development kick.
Honestly would have rather seen Claes/Hughes get it. We know what Hochevar/Fopma are capable of. I'd rather see the experience/points go to younger teams with potential. You know - if I ruled the world and all.
The conspiracy theorist in me wants to hypothesize they got out because they have zero chance of disrupting the top 3 teams' efforts to qualify. But that is pretty far fetched.

Fopma/Hochevar received a wild card? Honestly, that's embarrassing. Not to mention a little puzzling, since Lane Carico is one of the few beach players sponsored by ASICS. I doubt USAV had anything to do with it, gotta be Leonard...for whatever reason.
Also noticed that lurking in the bottom of the qualie is Chen Xue, who hasn't played since April.

Like Klazk, I guess I'm somewhat surprised. Either you use a wild card because you think a particular team will draw fans (and I don't think Fopma/Hochevar is a bigger draw than Carico/Ross) or you should go by the points, which I believe favors Carico/Ross. I'm interested in who makes the decision.

You got your wish Klazk: The young guns were granted a USAV Wild Card into the qualifier walking past the country quota. Go get them girls !
