Klazk, Last year you would be able to find the team rankings, any chance you are still able to do this??
With only the NORCECA event going on that weekend, it would appear this should be a bit more competitive on both sides.

avpnext.avp.com/Rankings.aspxLooks like top seeds (assuming everyone plays) would be Gibb/Patterson 3000 Hyden/Bourne 2260 Doherty/Mayer 2195 Dalhausser/Lucena 2045 Rosenthal/Brunner 1900 Women's side is really too difficult to predict given injuries, etc. My guess is Fendrick/Sweat will be #1 if Walsh doesn't play unless they award some kind of injury points to Fopma. Fendrick/Sweat 2460 Summer/Carico 2165 Day/Kessy 1935 Ross/Fopma 1725 There are a number of women's players that could break into the top 3/4 if they pair together (DiCello with McGuire, Branagh, Van Zwieten, McColloch, etc.)

AVP rushed to book this location as soon as they found out that NVL was making a stop in Seattle. Problem is, they booked it the same weekend as the Seaside, Oregon tourney. Every red-blooded vball fan or player in the Northwest will be in Seaside Oregon that weekend. We're all bummed to miss this event but it's no contest. Largest beach tourney in the world. Over 1000 teams and 130 nets. Sorta shows how out of touch the AVP is with their core followers and demographics.

The volleyball community is large enough there should be quite a few fans in Seattle. I'm actually planning on playing Seaside and then driving up to Lake Samammish to see the finals on Sunday. On the flip side Seaside's top prize in open is around $3500 for Men and Women so if the Qualifier is on Thursday, anybody who doesn't make it in to the AVP draw could drive down to Seaside and sign up. Should be one of the more deeper Seasides we've seen in a while.

Seaside and the surrounding areas book up months before the tournament. All the players will be at Seaside, so it'll be interesting to see the fanbase.... I'm guessing mostly indoor, and fans thereof. The Seattle NVL tournament may well outdraw the AVP version.

I agree, most fans on Friday and Saturday will not be the hard core VB'ers, but I suspect that a few in Seaside will drive out of town Saturday night if they live in the Puget Sound area and go see the AVP. Not a lot, most have reserved their rooms through Sunday (or even Monday)
I do agree on the NVL attendance, I think it'll be more consistent over the three days but I don't think it'll be over-flowing on Sunday. .. of course being close to the end of outdoor, i'll be playing in a tournament myself.

Not sure where this information is coming from, but it is pretty off base. The AVP is and was very aware of Seaside. There were other forces at work that led to the tournament having to be held in Seattle on Seaside weekend. It is a huge bummer that the Beach Volleyball Community is missing out on this event, but it is also a huge opportunity to expose new fans and players to the game at the highest level. [/glasshalffull] To be honest, I don't know if the fact that the AVP is/was aware of Seaside gives me more or less confidence in the organization. I think less. As a Seattle area native, I am happy to see the tour headed back to Seattle. But you have at least 16 - 18 potential weekends to hold the tournament, it seems like you could find a way not to have such a huge conflict with a key part of your fan base. Secondly, it is disappointing that they couldn't figure out away for the AVP Seattle to be in Seattle. Past AVPs have been at Alki, and if that didn't work, then at least have it some place in the city with a view of downtown and the Puget Sound. Sammamish is a nice area, but it's a suburb that is a good 30 minutes from Seattle. It doesn't exactly have a natural draw for fans. It's just another example of the AVP not understanding how to engage their fans. And as a fan trying to hang on, it is frustrating!

16-18 weekends? In seattle? Playable? A bit of a stretch, I think... Anyway... NVL is at Alki Beach, so it is possible.

It would have been great to have the event with a view of the Seattle skyline, but I don't see any way that the AVP footprint would have fit on Alki Beach. And parking would be a world class mess. Hardly a way to endear yourself to a fan base. The NVL has a much smaller build out and will be a great fit for that location. Having the event on the East Side could have its advantages. There are far more junior indoor players on the East side of Lake Washington than their are in Seattle proper. Lake Sammamish is easily accessible from I-90 and has tons of room for parking. NBC will be able to use pre-shot footage of Seattle and Pike Market on the broadcast, just like the networks use for the Seahawks games. Scheduling beach events in Seattle at any level is hugely challenging. Not to mention having to work around the FIVB calendar and a National TV Broadcast contract. It does appear that most of the big teams will be heading to Seattle. Several of them skipped NYC. It's incredible for the beach volleyball community to have both tours coming to Seattle this summer. There are a lot of people who have been working very hard to create a beach volleyball culture in Seattle and the fact that we will get to see two professional volleyball tournaments in 2015 is testament to the hard work that they have done. What a summer!

What a summer! My 16 - 18 week estimate was from mid- May to mid-September, and those are definitely months where you are likely to have decent weather. July - mid-September is prime, but there is still a solid window. And the AVP was on Alki a ton in the late 80's and mid 90's heyday, when there would be more courts needed and much larger crowds than today. Today's AVP needs a stadium court and three side courts, so definitely doable. Overall, I hope it works. But I'm fearing the scenario that due to poor scheduling crowds don't meet expectations, leading to Seattle not making it back next year. We'll see. Madi, I took a look at your site and it's great that your club is promoting the tournament. I hope it helps. And side note, I grew up in Mukilteo and first learned about/became a fan of beach volley on a sand court built on top of a basketball court (plenty of skinned knees) next to Silver Lake back in the early 90's. Judging from what your club is doing, it is good to see there are much better options in the area these days!
