With the NCAA barely sponsoring men's volleyball and still having too few schools to have DI and DII compete for a different championship, how far fetched is it to hope for men's collegiate sand volleyball in the near future?

My personal feeling is guys generally pickup volleyball through the sand game as there's only pockets of well established boys volleyball around the country. With sand vb a relatively cheap sport to fund it may make financial sense for men's sand at a school having women's sand instead of even considering any indoor vb or even replace another mens sport since title ix is such a big deal with schools.vb

I think NCAA women's beach is just getting going basically. Near future for men's beach? I don't think so.
Down the road apiece, I think we will see it.

I think every school that is sponsoring women's beach vb already has women's indoor vb. The adoption of beach (sand) has been quick due to the sharing of athletes and coaches in many cases. Men don't have that large pool of established indoor vb programs.
Also, Title IX generally favors adding a women's sport and does not encourage adding a men's sport.
So, yeah, maybe down the road, but not any time soon.

Adding most any sport this year and next likely won't happen, till each college has sorted out what they are doing and the cost of extra $$ to athletes ....'full cost of attendance'. Not sure how many athletes are going to be happy with that extra money just going to football and basketball, but the additional $$ to cover all scholarship athletes is a big challenge to budgets.

Any chance of NCVF starting up a beach national championship?

A big portion of cost of a sport (50% roughly) is coaching salary + recruiting budget. Sharing coaching salaries and recruiting budgets with indoor has to be a big appeal (also possibility of sharing scholarships). Programs like rowing which are typically in place to "hide" title IX scholarships for cheap.... still typically "lose" 400K a year or so. FSU's beach program as a comparison costs roughly 500k IIRC. There is also relatively low startup costs in terms of facilities - I heard USCar added their program for 40K.

men's NCVF beach championship? Now THERE's a thought. Maybe the NCVF will canvass the teams attending 2016 Nationals and find out how many schools HAVE a sand court available?
When NCVF (NIRSA) started, the first Nationals had like 24 teams attend, altho my memory is iffy. 1988/1989?

I think the schools are required to keep men's and women's scholarships equal or at least within a certain ratio. To compensate for football, which is the largest team sport (70 - 80 scholarships roughly) and all boys, there needs to be several "women's only" sports to even things out.

I could see a lot of big name schools like Nebraska, Wisconsin, Stanford, etc who have club men's volleyball more likely to have those guys play sand, as well as the men's powerhouses such as Lewis, Loyola, UCI, and Pfeiffer. I imagine their season would be in the fall?

Pfeiffer actually has sand courts near their athletic fields. AFAIK, do they even have a quad?
