Not expecting much from them. But nice for AVP - especially with Walsh out.
Should help draw a few more casual fans to the event.

Misty May - NR
Love that.
What does Misty do now? I hear about clinics every now and then, but she never seems too far from the game. I imagine, CBVA results aside, she could probably show up and take at least 3rd at the AVP most weekends without too much trouble. If I were Donald Sun I would offer her a first class ticket to and from every AVP event + some appearance money to come out and play.
I think she could easily top $10,000 a weekend, and for seven weekends a year that isnt too shabby (and thats before sponsors and assuming she didnt really train.)
I remember when Sinjin was done as a contender, he was still one of the biggest draws on the rare occasions he played AVP. Likewise Hov. A lot of fans will come out to see Misty and if she isnt what she was, what does it matter.

I guess a lot depends on seed. Where are Claes/Hughes? I guess based on that qualifier they must be going to NORCECA? Big disappointment there.

I actually am going with a lower finish, but don't have anything to base it on other than "absence" and what the pros all do to prepare for the year and individual events. VB IS a smart sport and probably few smarter than Misty, so anything could happen. How fun though.

How do you go from a 9th in a CBVA to a plus 5 in an AVP? I would think the AVP is a bit more difficult. There is a reason C&H are playing Norceca events. During the summer they essentially work for USAV and those efforts seem to have paid off with a wild card from USAV into Long Beach.

Good to see Misty having some fun on the beach, not to mention getting some appearance money thrown her way (not that she really needs it). And...I hate to be a buzzkill, but I've seen Misty play recently. They maybe win one match, but it's hard to imagine anything more than that.

Not to mention they can't take the AVP money anyway, and the FIVB points from a NORCECA will be more valuable than any AVP points they earn.

Re. money, Misty's husbands 2012 salary, which was EXTREMELY low for an MLB player could have funded the AVP for a few years....oh the woes of money & beach volleyball . . .

Jennings/Casebeer took a 5th last August. About a month before that the same team took 5th in the AVP. Allen/Keenan took 5th in a CBVA in June. When I saw that I also assumed that if Misty played July 18, then she was likely prepping for this. GLM says he has seen her play recently so that's better than guesses, but we arent talking about the glory days of the women's division when any one of 4-5 US teams could win an FIVB on any given weekend. Are we really going to say Misty has no chance against Branagan Fuller or Kendra VZ?
