Everyone talks about the Pablo rankings. There are teams that are 2-7 in conference listed ahead of teams that are 7-2 in the same conference. In a head-to-head match, that 2-7 team got swept 3-0. A team that got beat twice in the last three weeks of the season by another team is still listed 800 points and 184 spots ahead of that other team. I would not call that an accurate indicator of true ranking. It's not possible to create a ranking that does not have upsets. In fact, the whole premise of Pablo is that upsets MUST occur. A team that is 800 points ahead of another will win about 80% of the time. Therefore, to find a case where the underdog won does not discredit Pablo at all. Pablo works very well in D3. Upsets happen. They must. Upsets are more likely to occur in teams rated closer. Less likely in teams rated farther apart.

Lots of New England teams! I remember years ago that UMASS Boston was a JOKE! Now, they've managed to be a strong team in DIII!

Does anyone know if #8 Colorado College and #9 Cal Lu is the highest ranked pairing to ever square off in round one of the NCAA's?
Also #7 CMS and #12 Southwestern square off at the same place.

Not so strong I'd put Umass Boston and Wellesley up as questions for not sure how quickly Pablo adjusts. Both were very young and improved over the course of the season... UMB 12-15 P-124 Losses 9, 10, 14, 16, 23, 24, 34, 35, 41, 59, 65, 99, 150, 217, 279 Wins 86, 129, 172, 172, 193, 201, 201, 215, 222, 268, 339, 346 Wellesley 14-16 P-215 Losses 34, 34, 49, 53, 86, 86, 92, 99, 106, 124, 163, 172, 181, 194, 199, 229 Wins 59, 83, 109, 129, 187, 196, 217, 230, 283, 291, 316, 320, 341, 368 Wellesley has better wins and similar losses but is almost 100 spots lower...Why? If this is too much info from Rich Kern, let me know and I'll edit the post.

In terms of wins, Wellesley has 2 better, but only one is better than 100. Just based in what you posted, it's not all that surprising, not considering point differential

Anyone catch that Whitewater upset last night, going down to Northwestern (Minn.) in five? First Regional host eliminated.

Northwestern upsets the #1 seed for the second year in a row. I watched the 5th set and they were studly on defense. And the Whitewater fans were doing their best. That's a huge win!
Today I'm looking at #3 Ill Wesleyan over #2 Carthage - already beat them in Kenosha #5 Ithaca over #4 Williams - Most people don't think Williams belongs here so lets see.
And Stevens Point @ Calvin in the 2nd round? Those are both final 4 teams from last year.

Calvin sweeps Stevens Point in three. Berry becomes the second Regional host to go down, 3-2 to Hendrix. Carthage survives in five, Ithaca sweeps.

Juniata with a quick sweep, Heidelberg as well. Wittenburg and Case Western both win in 4. CNU, Stockton and Eastern all sweep, while RMU wins 3-1. Claremont, WashU and UT-Dallas all into the second round. Cal Lu vs Colorado College up next.

Cal Lu in a sweep over the Tigers. Looks like the Regals are all healthy at the right time.
#1 Washington - St. Louis had a mini scare from Santa Cruz in their 2nd game and face #7 CMS in tomorrow's 1st semi.
In tomorrow's nightcap, #9 Cal Lu gets #14 UT-Dallas who looked lively in their 4-set win over Whitworth.
Good stuff.

Northwestern pulls off another upset! This time beating 4th seeded Wartburg in 3 sets to advance to tomorrow's regional final vs. Bethel for an all-Minnesota final. BU and UNW are less than 10 minutes down Snelling Avenue from each other. Should be a fun one. BU swept UNW earlier this year.
