Tomorrow marks -21 days from the start of this event and there is still only one US Men's team showing as registered (Brunner/Rosenthal).
Women's teams registered are:
Dicello/Vanzwieten Fopma/Hochevar Larsen/Metter Ledoux/Hester McGuire/Dowdy Stockman/McColloch Summer/Carico Walsh/Ross
I guess the CQ teams that lose can still make it back in time for AVP Cincinnati, which conflicts with this event.
I think the AVP Chicago and Cincinnati events this year could be pretty watered down fields because of the conflicting FIVB events. Poland is a grand slam and then Rio is a "test event" for the Olympics. So even if you aren't worried about getting events in (Patterson/Gibb, Hyden/Bourne, Fendrick/Sweat, Kessy/Day), I would still think you would consider going to get the feel of the venue and set up in case you make it to Rio in 2016.

Wow, only Rosenthal/Brunner are playing Rio. That seems like a very questionable decision for Dalhuasser/Lucena in my eyes if they really want to make the Olympics.
Good news for AVP Cincy, though.

Will be an interesting run, considering at this point Patterson/Gibb are probably shoe-ins and if Doherty and Mayer keep improving and playing like last week nobody's going to catch them either. Those 2 teams are in a position to control their own destiny.

That won't chnage either when they don't go to Grand Slam events like Poland!

Good point. I will never understand how they determine the rankings of teams for the FIVB events. Mayer and Doherty are currently the 3rd ranked USA team behind Gibb/Patterson and Bounre/Lucena, but can't even get to the main draw or sometimes qualifier of tournaments. Crazy that arguably the team playing the best ball for USA isn't really even in the picture because of some flawed International rule.

Rules notwithstanding, they haven't been very good at all on the World Tour this season. 25th, 9th, 17th, 17th, 17th to date.

Pretty much the same for all US teams unfortunately.
USA trending down in Beach volleyball.

Crazy that arguably the team playing the best ball for USA isn't really even in the picture because of some flawed International rule. It's really not that much different than the AVP. They base points off of finishes in recent FIVB events (and technically NORCECA). It doesn't consider AVP finishes, just like the AVP doesn't consider FIVB finishes. That is why (before the injuries) Dalhausser/Rosenthal were a #6 seed at Manhattan last year and Gibb/Patterson were #1 seed despite Dalhausser/Rosenthal being the #1 team in the world on the FIVB tour at the time. It would be nice if there were unified rankings, but there aren't. And, as GLM pointed out, Doherty/Mayer have done nothing to show they belong higher in the FIVB rankings. They have a 13-12 match record, a best finish of 9th and their best win is against Gibb/Patterson (best win over a non-US team is a #22 seed). Eight of their 13 wins are against qualifier teams and another 3 came from inheriting the #2 seed at worlds and being placed in a much easier pool than they deserved. I think they have gotten a lot better and hope they have some success at Long Beach and in some Opens this fall, but IMHO their current FIVB ranking is appropriate.

DO DOherty and Mayer still have to go through qualifiers? I don't want to say for sure, and I can't remember if it was men's/women/s side, but last year there was one team that was on fire and finishing much better off that the other teams, and they still had to do qualifiers. I think that was last year when Gibb/Patterson were really down for those couple months. Not sure if it involved them or not but it was just ridiculous that the team had to still go through qualifiers. I wish I remembered what thread it was here.

What you are probably referring to is that the main draw versus qualifier teams are determined based on points as of 21 days before an event. So if there are FIVB events three weeks in a row you can run into situations where teams that have strong finishes the two prior weeks are still in the qualifier because the points for the 3rd event were determined before the 2 prior events.

Have to wonder if something is up with Rosie and Brunner after they bailed early in Poland without even playing their last match.
