CMU Volleyball will definitely be hiring a new coach at the end of the season. They may also be hiring a new A D and some A D associates. It all depends on how far down the rabbit hole they want to go. The last thing the volleyball program needs is another coach with a losing record and baggage. Since this program was started back in the eighties all the head coaches have been below average. They need to bring in a coach who knows how to win by teaching, mentoring, inspiring and just a great positive attitude and not someone who is just trying to keep there job. It seems that winning has not been much of a priority for the program. They seem to pay a very good salary for a head coach position, so they should be able to get a coach who can really help this program. The MAC is not a real strong conference in women's volleyball. So now would be the time to really create a program that could contend for a MAC Championship every year. The most important part of a program should be the well being of its players. I am sure most of these young ladies who play division one volleyball love the game and they want to win. But when things do not go right they should not be mentally and verbally abused. They have all played long enough to know when they messed up. What they need is positive coaching and encourement. I personally would want to give my all for a coach who says great job or something positive, not a coach who is always negative and bad mouthing me or my teammates. I apologize for rambling so long but I fill very strongly about CMU volleyball.

You could probably buy the town.

$80,000 plus incentives. Mount Pleasant is a small town. You can buy a very very nice home for $300,00. It's not a lot compared to the pac12 or the the big 10. It's coaching volleyball for petes sake. The season is only three months. I realize they work all year. Recruiting and camps. But the bulk of the hard work is during season. If you happen to be one of those coaches who really loves volleyball and coaching you probably do not consider it work. It's your passion.

There is certainly more than 3 months of "hard work" even at mediocre DII and DIII programs..

I flew over Nebraska once, on my way back from the East Coast. I must say, it was an especially pleasant part of the flight.

One of the most idiotic statements made on Volleytalk...and that's tough to do.

How about the University of Toledo? I know the MAC has dropped off a bit but come on... Last year went 0-16 in conference play and 1-28 overall. This year is on track to go 2-14 in conference play and 5-24 overall. Getting a bit toasty for Greg Smith i would say.
