Sorry if this has been discussed before, but what programs would you consider perennial cellar dwellars in D3 and NAIA schools in the midwest? I want to watch the lowest level of college volleyball to better understand which of my club players could legitimately play somewhere at that level.

That's the lowest level of college volleyball on the east coast. Actually there are schools with kids who didn't play in high school, so make that bad gym class volleyball

It does not get much worse then Central State University in Ohio. They are actually a D2 school, but I do not think you will find much below that.

Mount Mary in Milwaukee is about the worst. They are D3 but play mostly Christian Colleges In the Upper Midwest Conference in Minnesota you have some bad teams, like 390 Crown College (MN) 394 North Central University-MN 410 Northland College Central State (mentioned above) was 1248/1285 in the composite rankings last year, so yeah, pretty bad There's also Eureka For NAIA you have teams like Springfield Benedictine Harris Stowe State Indiana Northwest Bethany, KS Central Baptist College Central Christian - KS Midamerica Christian Michigan-Dearborn that are somewhere in the midwest I think The bottom few D2 schools also really stink. In addition to Central St, try Oklahoma Panhandle State. Others like Lane, Shaw and LeMoyne-Owen are outside the midwest.

Ten minutes on the internet allows anyone the opprotunity to identify programs at various levels without publicly identifying schools as the "worst etc."

I appreciate your wanting to take a look at the spectrum. It's easy to watch Penn State VS. Stanford and think that none of your players are at that level, but then when you go to an NAIA JV game or a D3 game you can see the variety of players that can find a home in the college game.
We have a girl who never played any volleyball outside of high school ball in a very small town school. She just made a NAIA varsity roster as a freshman walk on. She's a great athlete but has had very little proper volleyball training and is only 5'6". I don't think they are a terrible program for NAIA, either.
If you search hard enough, there is a team for anyone who's willing to work for it and has a moderate amount of athletic ability and volleyball talent. Anyone who wants to play in college, have them read Inside College Volleyball. Walks you through the recruiting process at any level for any player.

And...Benedictine of Springfield shut the program down in November, 2014...
Terrible is a harsh way of evaluating--one coach, one recruit...or a dedicated athletic director and fundraiser can turn things around in six months. The real question at those levels--am I getting the education I want.
