They are a better TEAM because they set more than the two ridiculously good 2011 outsides. They are a worse team because they don't have two ridiculously good pins. And McMahon. Dorn wasn't bad.

Yes, and McMahon. She was good as a freshman on that RS. Plus Erin Johnson was the "attacking" middle if you will, whereas Dorn was a great defensive player and her block relied upon. They had plenty of weapons that they used consistently.

IF you've actually watched and comprehend what's going on you'll know that she attempts to get the OP and the middles going . Specifically in the Penn State game she avoided the OH to start By the third set she had no choice but to set them or be swept. Strizak started the ralley and then Birks smashed through the block over the block and around the block to catch them up and they ended up taking that set and almost the 4th. Poulter knows how to move it around so one can assume they haven't connected yet enough to produce or they can't. Either way if they would have started setting the OH they might have won. Maybe off topic why do you call yourself "illinifan" Or is it just this team in particular that you don't care for. It's just so odd that you argue to discredit your own team. I am an Illini fan through and through, and I will be forever. I care so much for this team, this is Jocelynn's last season so I think this is one of the last shots we have at getting back to the Final Four. It's just discouraging to watch a team with so much talent not take advantage of it. We could be great, but terrible communication, shaky defense, and a decently consistent attack have plagued this team. I watch every match and I do comprehend what happens. I understand that Poulter attempts to get the RS and middles involved, but towards the end of sets when they try to close them out it's all OH, OH, OH, OH. My biggest thing is predictability. It's what destroyed any hope at the 2012 season. I believe that predictability (or lack thereof) plays an incredible role in determining success of a team. When there is a long rally going, Poulter keeps going to the outsides 5, 6, or 7 times. When blocks of OSU or PSU can set up and get the proper angle, our success is going to be very limited. I have confidence in our middles and decent confidence in our RS that they could put one down in a change of pace situation to catch the opposing defense in putting everyone to stop our OHs. That's all I want. I trust Jordyn, but I do think her decision-making needs to be a bit better for us to find success as we finish the season. That's an interesting observation. Maybe its a system being taught instead of poor choices? I recall last year we ran a similar "game plan" and everyone came down on Vulinis for the same thing. Something to consider I guess. When Strizak is in the front with Jordyn I don't think she has another option at this point other then back row which she rarely uses.

When Strizak is in the front with Jordyn I don't think she has another option at this point other then back row which she rarely uses. Maybe it is a system, I really don't know. Maybe it's just that they've been taught to just throw balls to the outsides because that's what we've been doing with Birks the last few years, I really don't know. Speaking of the back row, I wish Jordyn would utilize that more (and dumping, but that's partly on our atrocious passing). Birks out of the back is ridiculous, there's so much power there. I think once Stadick (and to some extent Bastianelli) figure out what they were doing earlier in the season, the offense will be back at that high level. And if one of Stark/Crittendon/Roustio can lay claim to that RS position, then this team could do serious damage.

Forgive me for temporarily changing the subject, but I am driving to Champaign for the NEB-Ill match this Sat and was hoping to gain some insight regarding tickets for the match and things to do while there. Will be driving down from Chicago late Fri after the NEB-NU match so will be there all day on Sat. Do people ever sell their reserved seats out front prior to the match or should I count on a GA ticket? Interesting things to do or cant miss restaurants in the area? Please feel free to PM me if so inclined. Thanks in advance!!
