As an Iowa fan (a tough job in the past) Bond has been selling dreams now for 2 years and he's gathering the best talent he can muster. I'd love to see Iowa climb a couple rungs on the ladder, but i don't know if we're quite there yet. Closer though than any time in recent history.
I know my daughter met him last year at a club thing, and she bought in to his line of thinking. She thinks he's building greatness and hopes to be a part of it someday. She's still too young for recruitment, but if he can capture their imaginations when they are young like that, he's got a better chance than the last Iowa coach ever did.
I don't know if Iowa will win much this weekend or this year, but hope is a dangerous thing to underestimate.

I'm on the watch for the following:
1. Higgins's ability to set the middles properly. The middles are tall and can jump so set the ball higher! Higher!
2. McKenna Granato's ability to hit from the back row.
3. Tai Manu-Olevao has to hit for over 0.200, preferably 0.300. (It's an arbitrary number.)
4. Annie Mitchem's dominating presence at the net. I've heard so much about her firepower ability so, umm, let's see it. Now.
5. Kalei Greeley's numbers should be 0.300 hitting pct, 4 digs, 2 blocks.
6. Emily Maglio has to produce at the net, whether hitting or blocking, to prevent Annie Mitchem from taking her spot.
7. Kendra Koelsch, we know you can backset and dump the ball. How about shooting the ball to the left side, huh?
8. Crisp passing by Savannah Kahakai and the three DSs.
9. Megan Huff in the third set. At least 3 kills.
10. Casey Castillo in the third set. Get that first kill as a Wahine.

Get that first kill as a Wahine. good list. i'd wanna see that higgins' location to the pins is consistent as well. only 4 digs for greeley? she's certainly capable of more. the DSs are not used for serve receive. i'd want them to come in and go on service runs, and provide solid floor defense. spread the offense. if taylor and magill are drawing the attention of the blockers, then other hitters should be terminating when facing single blockers or seams in the block.

Kalei Greeley is a steady consistent player, she gets the job done without being flashy!

I actually think the 2015 Wahine offense spreads it around a lot more than previous Wahine teams. I think it's because the best hitter sits on the right and they've got a legitimate AA candidate in middle Olivia Magill. Plus, who knows what Annie Mitchem can do.

I just realized that the way I wrote my list (e.g., Megan Huff and Casey Castillo in the 3rd set), I was subconsciously assuming a 3-set sweep of Iowa. LOL!

If the Wahine can pass and play well, I expect to see more of the subs. Would like to see Koelsch play a whole set just to see how well she can run the offense and be able to compare her stats to Higgins per set. Curious to see how they would compare.

I don't think Iowa has the firepower to beat Hawaii. But I do think that American is a dangerous team, and they should be the team everyone should watch out for at this tournament. I can tell you this much, American is easily the best team I've seen Florida play this year. Only 3 matches but they impressed me more than Oregon. Heck, JMU was better than Oregon. American is a very feisty team, tournament tested and they returned a solid core.

Looks like the American players are still enjoying the beach. UCLA taking it to American, right now.

Looks like the American players are still enjoying the beach. UCLA taking it to American, right now. UCLA always plays well in Hawaii. Like Gator mentioned, AU is a quality team, I think they'll play better tomorrow. Hawaii will probably wear them down but I expect American to be competitive. That is why I would have preferred Hawaii to have faced them tonight ( less time to scout and settle down). Hawaii can't sleep on UCLA either. The the Wahine will be too much for Iowa but I appreciate what the Hawkeyes did yesterday, class act. Mahalo to Coach Shymansky and the Hawkeye Ohana.
