2016 Nebraska could be scary If Cook and Co. don't break their now 6 years and counting string of no final fours within the next couple years, I think you seriously have to look at the program and say, wtf are you doing.

I'm pretty sure this is UNC's first top ten recruit.

Have Oregon, Kentucky, or North Carolina ever had any top 10 senior aces before? I cant think of any off the top of my head.. Program first for Oregon, Kentucky and North Carolina, AFAIK.

Congrats to Lanier! I was really pulling for her to be number 1, shes going to do big things at USC. After watching Lanier and others in her class, this was an easy prediction (at least for some anyway). She is dominant. Although a good player, I don't get that same sense for Plummer. I haven't seen Fitz play the whole game, so I can't say. When they all get to college, things might turn out differently, of course.

As a result, USC fans will be less impressed, where Stanford fans will be thrilled with Plummers modest contribution to a more successful group led by Hodson.

If anything USC fans should be grateful that they will have the #1 recruit coming in to fill Bricio's place. Im not denying that right now Bricio is better than Lanier, but she has 3 years of college experience under her belt.

How does Lanier compare to previous top recruits in regards to her projected collegiate impact? Will she have a career along the lines of Megan Hodge/Alix Klineman/Krista Vansant where she evolves into the nation's top player, takes home multiple AA awards and finds ample tournament success, or will her impact and success be more likely to compare to a Kelly Murphy (great individual player, no Final Fours or real national impact), or Molly McCage (skilled 3-4th option on a top team, far from panning out to be the #1 recruit)?

Everybody gets waaaay to caught up on national player rankings! Molly McCage = three national semi final appearances in three years and one national championship! With one year to go. As a coach at a much lower level in different sports I would take that that success in a heartbeat .

I thought Lanier tipped a lot in the FIVB u18 but that may have been due to the setting

As a coach at a much lower level in different sports I would take that that success in a heartbeat . Right...but she has been a 4th or 5th option offensively her first 3 years. If you look at top recruits, some have panned out and firmly established themselves as the very best player in their class or top 2-3 (a la Hodge/Carlini) while others didn't. The point I'm trying to get at is, do people anticipate that Lanier is on another level compared to the other top recruits, or is the talent level across the top recruits more evenly spread?

Id say the top three recruits for 2016 are all on pretty similar levels. In the opening of the top 10, prepvolleyball said that the top three were almost interchangeable.

I thought Lanier tipped a lot in the FIVB u18 but that may have been due to the setting Considering that the team had only played together fora little bit before worlds and the facts that many of the players were playing in their first international tournament, I wouldnt read that much into the tournament. However i agree, she tips a little too much for my liking
