Question: If the Men's game is being thrown around because of the "ineligible" player issues surrounding Hawaii and Lewis with regards to Foreign players, how is it that Candelas could be on this professional team and still be eligible? Isn't the rule that it doesn't matter whether he/she accepts money, but as long as she plays on a team with professionals it should make her ineligible. Can anyone explain to me why this is not the case with the women??

Can anyone explain to me why this is not the case with the women?? As I read it, if she competes on a professional team (one which pays some or all of its players), then she is no longer eligible, She may practice with a professional team, and she may compete on a (non-professional) team which includes professional (paid) athletes. Since I don't know what the situation is/was, I can't comment on whether it should make her ineligible. (In addition, it's more than possible that I'm mis-reading the rules and regs.) See www.ncaa.org/library/membership/division_i_manual/2003-04/2003-04_d1_manual.pdf for the NCAA division I rulebook.

I think Candelas and Seilhammer may have just practice with the team without being officially part of roster (after all, they were just high school players). Tracy Stalls would fall under the same category too, as she went to train with various Japanese teams, but did not compete on any actual match in order to preserve her college eligibility.

It will be interesting what they find!

The NCAA already investigated Cruz, it's why she missed like the 1st 8 matches her freshman year. They did the same with Cepero, I believe, but not sure she missed any match time. They found no violations for either, but since they enrolled, I believe they've changed the rules so that if they were to enroll in school now, neither would be eligible to play in college.
